General Foreman | 1 Year with Skilled Labour Services

We’re proud to shine a light this month on Lee Bedding, our General Foreman with 32 years in the industry!

Starting out as a ganger, he quickly stood out for his skill, dedication, and deep knowledge of all aspects of groundworks. It wasn’t long before he was promoted to General Foreman - a role he’s absolutely thrived in.

He holds numerous qualifications, including SSSTS, and is trained across all areas of his role. Recently, Lee achieved an impressive health & safety compliance score on his site -an incredible achievement, especially while working with a Tier 1 contractor.

Currently leading operations in Whiteparish, Lee is known for his reliability, punctuality, and his ability to keep projects on time, on budget, and up to a high standard. He leads a tight-knit gang that has been with him for over 10 years.

We recently completed a successful streetworks project in Brentford to excavate and reinstate trial holes to identify underground services — ahead of a future electricity duct installation.

✅ Using a combination of CAT scanner and utility plans, we accurately mapped out what lay beneath the surface.

✅ The route was marked, excavated, and services located – all with minimal disruption.

✅ Once verified, the area was safely backfilled, leaving the site ready for the next phase.

Asset Management Period 8 (AMP8) commences on 1 April 2025 affecting all English and Welsh Water companies.

Set by Ofwat, the aim of AMP periods is to increase efficiency and service levels in the sector.

The AMP8 programme is set to be up to 3-4 times bigger than any previous AMP period and is anticipated to transform the water industry’s commitments towards climate change, service, society and the environment.

The ambitious targets will present unique challenges to the industry. SLS have years of experience in the water industry, we have preferred supplier agreements with several Tier 1 contractors in the Southern and Thames area.

We look forward to continuing our existing relationships and developing new ones throughout the upcoming AMP 8 period. We're ready to help!

We were appointed as the groundwork subcontractor for a basement construction project in central Wi******er, Hampshire.

The restricted site was challenging! But our team successfully completed the full scope of groundwork, including excavation, slab and wall construction, drainage installation, and external works - on schedule and within budget.

Update from Lancing!

6 new houses....

We have completed all the engineering, groundbeam excavation, pile cropping, blinding, steelfixing, coredeck, backfill and concreting.

Plot 2 to was poured today, along with drainage and block & beam to plot 1.

Less rain, lighter evenings, moving forward!

This month, we’re celebrating our Worker of the Month - Martyn Little - for his dedication and leadership on our Uckfield Project!

With 10 years at Skilled Labour Services, Martyn is now a Site Foreman who leads by example, managing operatives, liaising with clients, and organising plant and material deliveries. Recently, he has also completed his SSSTS certification, reinforcing our commitment to safety.
