Something slightly different, construct and plaster a false chimney breast to give a plain wall a feature, once the electric log burner is in place, a wooden mantle piece and the tv mounted above, this will give a plain wall a new lease of life and create a focal point in the room.

In all our trades and the places we work, we prefer some of the work we have to do, This job, to be honest was one I throughly enjoyed doing, had to put my construction skills into play building a frame, insulating, boarding & plastering to create an office.

With Christmas just around the corner, it’s that time of year again when I get calls asking if I can fit plastering jobs in before Christmas, several people last year I had to let down, so this year I’m putting out there, I’ve a few days left in December if your looking to get any work done this side of Christmas, don’t leave it to late to get in contact.

On this job I was asked can I create an arch to soften the look between the dining room and lounge, they were happy to buy the arch forming kits to which my reply was, “don’t bother buying them, I make my own arch kits to the size you want” and at a fraction of the cost, the outcome was exactly what they wanted, another couple rooms completely de artexed, walls and ceilings on this occasion.

Another large ceiling de artexed, I love artex, if it ever comes back into fashion, I’m in trouble, however, by then I’ll be retired, sitting on a very warm beach in some far away land, well we can all dream can’t we.!!

Soundproofing a wall is a fairly simple but effective system to reduce the noise from your neighbours, don’t get me wrong, it won’t totally eliminate hearing them, but does significantly reduce the feeling there in the same room as you, this will offer around 60 to 65dB of noise reduction, once fitted it can be plastered, The projection into the room is from 77mm to 135mm depending on the system fitted.

Acoustic noise stop panels can be applied straight to the wall via dot & dab or screws, this would offer 45 to 50dB and obviously not be as effective, this would project into the room about 40 to 50mm
