A recent job carried out:

Wellow Primary School are in the process of getting chickens for the students and had recently removed the old sleeper wall & replaced it with a nice new brick wall(still in progress)

We were asked if we could supply and erect a chicken enclosure 🐓 🐓

So we supplied and erected 1’inch square weld mesh wire which we line wired, clipped and strained to 4x4 timber posts plus a pedestrian gate for access.

We also carried out repairs along the playing field as 15 of the existing posts had become rotten and needed replacing along with some of the arris rails & gravelboards.

Unfortunately we won’t get to see the faces of the children when they get to meet their chickens 🐔

Another happy customer 😊

We have just finished our category 1 & 2 combined Category 1 Locate Underground Services & Category 2 – Implement Safe (Digging) Excavations Practices

This involves

Interpret utility drawings and line search documents

Demonstrate usage of cable location devices (Cat & Genny) in order to locate utility services

Identify the dangers and hazards associated with carrying out ground survey detection

Accept the limitations of underground utility detection equipment and drawings

Grasp the true costs of utility ‘strikes’ to contractors, stakeholders and wider society

Distinguish between good and bad practices via increased education in this specialist area

Identify ground/soil types and changeable conditions faced on-site

Carry out or interpret Risk Assessment and Permits to Work

Implement safe digging practices through hand digging techniques

Thanks to Cable Connections, we will see them again in another three years 😊

A recent job:

We travelled to The Traveller’s Home pub in Bexleyheath London.

Two areas of fencing needed attention, the first area needed the old closeboard fencing replaced with 6’ft high timber closeboard fencing which we bolted to the existing concrete repair posts plus a matching closeboard gate.

The gate was fitted with a push pad panic latch as it’s an emergency fire exit.

We also supplied and fitted a section of 2.3 meter high face fixed closeboard fencing & a 6’ft high section in front of the tree 🌳

A recent job:

The customers existing palisade fence had been up for 30+ years according to the customer but was now in need of replacing.

The existing concrete posts & concrete gravelboards were still in great condition so didn’t need changing so we replaced all the timber rails and timber pales but went for a thicker pale this time.

Back to a repeat customer, this time we were asked if we could replace the existing damaged gate and hanging plates plus replace the bay of timber closeboard between the existing concrete posts.

A recent job:

The customer wanted us to replace the existing 25-5’ft high rotten timber closeboard panels.

As the customer had concrete slotted posts and concrete gravelboards it was a simply case of sliding of the existing rotten panels and sliding in the new panels and screwing the panels into the existing posts to secure them in place.

We had to dig out and straighten up two posts which had started to lean over.

A recent job:

The customer wanted a fence to match his existing horizontal front fence, this wasn’t going to be straightforward. The customer wanted to keep as much as the hedge as possible and to fit the new fence as close to the existing fence line which is in the middle of the fence line.
Our man issue to figure out how we were going to do this as it would be near impossible to physically dig and fit any fence posts under the hedge without cutting the hedge right back.

We came up with a solution which involved cutting the bottom section of the hedge out(checked the whole hedge line for birds nests before we could start the job 🐦 )
Then using the existing concrete posts that held the original boundary wire bolted timbers to the existing concrete posts than classed with timber rails which we screw the slated panels to then fixed a dummy post between each panel to give it the look of a traditional post and panel fence.

We also replaced a small area of timber decking which had had done well for the last 15+ years but was in need of replacing now.

We would like to give Gary a very warm welcome to the Ferris Fencing & Gates team.

With temperatures around the mid 30's today we thought it was safer to let Gary work without his hard hat and hi vis (struggling to find safety boots to fit him.

Gary spent most of this morning clearing up worms and insects that we discovered while removing the old fence which is more than a lot of labourers do.

In Gary's own words on his first day at Ferris Fencing & Gates

"Tom, Paul & James are the best guys I've ever worked for, I feel so lucky to have such great work colleagues, not only are they great to work with but bloody handsome guys"

we always appreciate honest feedback from our colleagues and customers
