📍 PROJECT SURVEY | HARPENDEN

There’s always something a little different about working with buildings that have a story behind them.

We were recently on site in Harpenden, surveying a former police station that’s being transformed into modern office space for one of our long-standing clients.

Working alongside MGBC Construction, we’re looking after the technology and security infrastructure throughout the building, including:

🔹 Network cabling
🔹 IT network infrastructure
🔹 Wi-Fi coverage

Getting involved at the survey stage means we can make sure everything is properly planned, positioned and integrated before the project moves forward - particularly important when bringing modern technology into an older building.

🔐 10 YEARS ON… AND STILL GOING STRONG.

We first installed security at this property in Henlow around 10 years ago, and recently we were invited back to carry out the next stage of upgrades.

That’s something we’re really proud of - we don’t install technology with the expectation that it’ll need replacing every few years. We specify quality products, install them properly, and build systems that last.

This time around, we upgraded the property with AJAX cameras, extended the security system to protect all of the outbuildings, and solved one slightly unusual security problem… 🐶

The family pup had discovered that jumping up onto the front windowsill was a very effective way of setting the alarm off. Clearly, neighbourhood watch is a serious business. 😂

To keep everyone happy, we installed an AJAX Motion Protect Curtain on the front window. Rather than monitoring the whole room, the laser creates a narrow detection line across the window - meaning the property stays protected while the pup can continue keeping an eye on the street without setting the alarm off every time! 🐾🚨

Technology moves on, requirements change, and systems evolve - but a quality installation should stand the test of time.

For us, this job is a perfect example of why we choose the products we do. Security technology that lasts, and a system that can be upgraded and adapted!

Security Upgrade - Kensington, London 📍

A little follow-up from our Kensington project last week - this time, the finished installation.

We recently upgraded the security across a collection of studio apartments, bringing several separate systems together into one complete Ajax security solution.

Now everything is installed, we wanted to share a few photos of the finished result.

From the Ajax video doorbells and CCTV cameras through to the intruder alarm devices, everything has been installed with the aim of providing comprehensive security while keeping the technology discreet and in keeping with the properties.

Behind the scenes, the owner now has complete visibility across every space from one app, with individual access permissions set for different members of staff.

As part of this beautiful garden renovation in Gosmore, Hitchin, by Refined Landscapes, we were brought in to extend the technology beyond the home's four walls.

We installed a Sylvox outdoor TV, a full Sonos surround sound system, and extended the WiFi coverage throughout the garden - giving the client seamless entertainment and connectivity throughout their new outdoor space.

A great example of how the right technology can become part of the garden design, rather than feeling like an afterthought.

Security Upgrade – Kensington, London 🔐📹

This week’s job took us into Kensington, upgrading security across a collection of studio apartments used as office space, an art studio and accommodation.

Previously, each apartment had its own separate security system. The solution was to bring everything together into one simple platform.

Using Ajax Systems, each apartment now has:

🔹 5-zone wireless intruder alarm
🔹 3-camera CCTV system
🔹 Ajax video doorbell

Everything is managed through the Ajax app, giving the owner complete visibility across every property, while staff can be given individual access to only the spaces they need.

Multiple properties. Different levels of access. One security solution.

One of the biggest causes of fading furniture isn't wear and tear… it's the sun. ☀️

When we first visited this client in Hitchin, their sofas were covered with blankets whenever the sun came through the skylights. It wasn't exactly the look they were going for, but it was the only way they knew to protect the fabric from UV damage and bleaching.

Rather than keeping the room covered up, we installed Temposhade G1 skylight blinds, giving the client complete control over the amount of sunlight entering the space.

Now, on bright days, the blinds can be closed at the touch of a button, protecting the furniture while still allowing the room to feel bright, comfortable and welcoming.

This is a great example of smart technology solving a real everyday problem. It isn't always about adding the latest gadget – sometimes it's about making your home easier to live in and protecting the things you've invested in.

Whether it's lighting, blinds, security or home automation, we always start with the problem before recommending the right solution.

📍 Langford – 1st Fix in Progress

One of the most important parts of any install… getting the size right 👇

On this lounge setup, we’ve physically marked out multiple TV sizes on the wall so the client can see exactly how each option will look in real life - no guesswork, just confidence in the decision.

The plan? A Samsung Frame TV above the fireplace (great choice 👌), with the final call now down to 75” vs 85”… not a bad dilemma to have.

We’ve wired this space ready for:
🔹 The Frame TV install
🔹 Sonos Arc Ultra soundbar for seriously impressive audio
🔹 AND a traditional flat screen option - just in case plans change

Because here’s the truth…
💡 Wiring now is cheap - it’s the cable you didn’t run that costs the most.

This is why we always like to get involved early - designing flexibility into the system from day one.

Behind the scenes 👷‍♂️🔌

This month has been full of 1st fix cabling… not always the prettiest photos, but some of the most important work we do.

Raw building sites, open walls, cables everywhere - this is where a great system really starts.

We always aim to get involved as early as possible, ideally before the main building work begins. It gives us the chance to properly understand the property, the layout, and how the client is going to live in the space… which means everything is designed right from the ground up.

Because once the walls are closed up - that’s it.

Quality at this stage is everything.

That’s why we only use high-quality cabling throughout our installs:
✔️ Better performance across AV, networking & control systems
✔️ Greater reliability long-term
✔️ Future-ready infrastructure (no need to rip walls open later)
✔️ Less interference and signal loss
✔️ Built to last as long as the property itself

Site check-in this week… and the pool has completely vanished.

This indoor swimming pool has been fully ripped out as part of a major refurbishment that will transform the space into a stunning relaxation and entertaining area, complete with a new orangery.

For now, we’re waiting for the other trades to start rebuilding before we return to bring the technology behind the space to life.

Our role in the project includes:
•⁠ ⁠Lighting control design
•⁠ ⁠Network infrastructure
•⁠ ⁠Integrated audio control

The lighting has been carefully designed so the two rooms will have simple scene control - things like Swim, Relax, or Party modes that instantly set the atmosphere.

Each keypad will also control the audio system, meaning there’s no need to reach for a phone when you’re poolside.

This project is also expanding an existing Rako system we previously installed for the client, which already controls the cinema room and living areas of the home.

We’re looking forward to seeing this one come back to life over the coming months.
