Heron vs Rodents...The past few days has seen us take on a large garden infestation where mice were ruining some very expensive plants by burrowing below the roots causing collapsed flower beds due to massive tunnel systems.

Due to family pets and the very rural location we used humane trap systems strategically located to prevent any further danger to wildlife. If we had baited using rodenticide there is a danger to non target species and secondary poisoning occuring.

In total 15 traps have been used for various rodent species in various locations to great effect.
Over 30 rodents have been despatched in less than 3 days minimising the population which will at least help restore the flowerbeds!!

A big thank you to our customer who was happy to rebait the traps that were going off as quick as he could set them!!

The national and international news have focussed on the Hantavirus outbreak caused by rodents.
As shocking and as devastating as this infection has been for those involved there is little public knowledge about Hantavirus. Where there is little knowledge there is often panic!

However, this outbreak has raised awareness of the very real threat of other debilitating illnesses that can be caused by various strains of diseases spread by rodents in the UK.

Well that was another full week for us as business is really picking up...
Thank you to everyone who has passed our number on and recommended us or asked us to survey, quote and treat a wide variety of pests this week...We ha e met some amazing people this week!

From nuisance birds and proofing, moles, rats in roofs, drains and walls, mice infested gardens, carpet beetles, drain surveys, loft space clearance and hygiene cleans....
Not to mention 5 additional Health & Safety training courses each for the Heron Pest Solutions lads necessary for a specific project for a new client....oh and DBS clearance to add to our diverse week!!
This all helps us stand out by being the best we can be and working as safely as possible whilst protecting the health and safety of the public, the environment and our wildlife!!!

No 2 days the same and never want them to be!!

The hawks were out again yesterday keeping nuisance seagulls away and preventing nesting on roofs causing potential damage and making a right mess, not to mention the spread of disease...another great job from Povall Pest & Vermin Control

Today we carried out a successful mole control job in Wales, focusing on reducing activity across the affected land. After assessing the runs and identifying the most active tunnels, we installed Putange mole traps in key locations to maximise effectiveness. Conditions were suitable, and the ground allowed for clean and precise trap placement.

All traps were set carefully to ensure humane and efficient results, with attention given to positioning and stability within the runs. The site will be monitored, and follow-up visits will be scheduled as needed to check progress and reset traps if required. Overall, a productive day with everything set up for effective mole control.

WASPS have started to build nests and grow their colonies!!
Did you know:
Wasps are much needed pollinators and also kill insects such as mosquitos and flies in the early summer to feed their larvae.....

Where do Wasps Build Nests?
🐝Queens look for dark, sheltered, undisturbed cavities. Common locations include:
🐝Loft spaces, Eaves and soffits Wall cavities & Airbricks
🐝Sheds and garages, Bird boxes & Compost heaps

Springtime means:
🐝Tens of thousands of Queens emerge from hibernation
🐝Each queen starts a new nest

May-July means;
🐝First workers hatch and take over nest building and foraging.
🐝Nests grow rapidly, often reaching 3,000–5,000 wasps.

August-September means:
🐝Colony reaches peak size and the Queen stops producing pheromones
🐝Workers become erratic and aggressive and turn to sugary foods (fruit, drinks, bins).

🐝BEER & CIDER, FIZZY DRINKS & ICE CREAM which is why beer gardens get hammered by wasps!!

This week we have been doing quite a few ant jobs. It is just that time of year🤷‍♂️
We are finding more and more people are attempting to irradicate the ants with off the shelf powders. Only to see them back again the next day.
It is most likely more ants have hatched in the nest than the customer will see dead in the powder day after day.....That is when they call us.
Pest controllers are qualified and trained to purchase and use the correct chemicals to irradicate the nest. This is the only way to completely get rid of the ants.
Have a go by all means, but call us out if they are just not going away...
It is the same for all pests and don't forget don't forget wasp season has also started!!
