Beautiful connections via exquisite design…

A very personal part of this garden 🤍

The handmade bench in my Gardeners’ World Autumn Fair garden was designed to represent my grandparents.

I wanted it to feel as though it had a story of its own, with a slightly weathered, lived-in character rather than something too new or polished. There are subtle differences within the finish, but they’re deliberately understated.

For me, the bench is really about memory and connection. Gardens can hold so much more than plants and materials, and I loved the idea of including something in the design that quietly represents two people who are very special to me.

It has been made by hand especially for the garden, by our good friend and neighbour Georgie, from Trust Carpentry, making it a completely unique piece and one of the most personal elements of the whole design.

If you’re visiting the BBC Gardeners’ World Autumn Fair, come and take a closer look. You’ll find my garden opposite the house.

Well that was a massive one….

Just over 70 tonnes of aggregate, base material, sand, cement, bricks, blocks and stone!! And 7 x 3.5m Laurel trees! Shifted round to the back of the house in wheel barrows and a tracked dumper!

All to create this amazing transformation and raise up the level by about 600mm for a 120sqm Indian sandstone patio.

But we think you’ll agree that its an amazing space now its done and bring on the entertaining on it!!

As usual we couldn’t have done it without the help of our amazing suppliers.

A blank canvas. We all love a blank canvas. This transformation has made a huge difference to this garden. The lawn doesn’t feel reduced yet we have created a 55sqm top patio with two large planters to the front for our client to fill with loads of planting.

This garden is sloping majorly and so levelling out the top part was essential. About 25 tonnes of aggregates and soil went into this project all expertly delivered to a tight site with a 9ft height limit by Pat Taylor Garden Services Limited.

Fantastic porcelain slabs from Melton Stone delivered to us on time and right to the door. And the bricks from Huws Gray that are new but look old to blend in with the rest of the property.

We’ll be back to this site for what is now the bottom patio to make it match!

Sometimes its not all about digging holes and filling them in. Sometimes we get to build stuff too!! This job for a long term client was a new carport over the driveway that we built last year and a new retaining wall to replace old and rotting sleepers. Sleepers have their place, but brick is always the choice for longevity. Talking of which the roof of the car port is rubber and should last for 50 years or so. That’ll outlive us!!!

Please get in touch to discuss your next project….

Quick little job for a regular client
Installation of some play equipment as a surprise for their visiting grandchildren next week.
What a wonderful surprise it’ll be
I’d imagine that they’ll be smiling for ear to ear with excitement when they see it
