They look similar. They do similar things. But choosing the wrong barrier for your site setup can mean wasted space, more vehicle movements, or just an install that’s harder than it needs to be.

So here’s how to think about it:

More coverage, fewer units. That means faster install, fewer crane movements, and often fewer loads to site - so lower transport costs and less emissions per metre of barrier.
Ideal for long, straight runs: haul roads, perimeter boundaries, highways.

𝟮.𝟱𝗺 𝗕𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗿𝘀 🚧
You’ve got more flexibility when the layout gets tight. Easier to handle around corners, curves, or awkward access points. They’re also the better pick when you need to reposition units more frequently, like at events or temporary works zones.

Both are heavy-duty & both do the job 💪
The right choice comes down to the site’s needs: coverage or control.

Concrete Panels – Choosing the Right Thickness

Panel thickness isn’t just about handling or weight. It’s about strength and how much pressure that panel can take before performance becomes a problem.

We supply prestressed panels in a range of standard thicknesses: 100, 150, 180, and 280mm. Each one is designed for a specific use based on what’s being retained, how high the wall is, and how far it needs to span between steels.

Here’s how it breaks down:

100mm – Suited to light-duty internal partitions or non-loadbearing applications. Not recommended where impact or pressure is present.

150mm – A solid, mid-weight choice for agri storage, grain walls, or medium-duty bays. Balanced strength and economy.

180mm – For higher-density materials or where impact risk is higher - waste bays, aggregates, vehicle access routes. Added thickness, added load capacity.

280mm – The heavy-duty option. Ideal for taller walls, longer spans, or high-impact environments where deflection tolerance is minimal.

What matters isn’t just thickness, it’s spacing, span, and the level of loading. We’ll here to help you factor all of it in before you specify.

We’ve been a bit nostalgic this week - something about Glastonbury and ground protection brings it out in us 🤷

This week, thousands of revellers will be heading to Worthy Farm for the iconic Glastonbury Festival 💃🎶

Believe it or not, we made an appearance a few years back…not on the Pyramid Stage (thankfully), but behind the scenes, helping secure the site itself 🚧

We supplied barriers and ground protection to keep things moving across what’s probably the busiest temporary setup in the UK.

We don’t do festivals every week (shame, really), but the brief felt familiar: Fast turnaround, tight access, and concrete that does its job without needing a spotlight.

On a residential site like this with tight access, stepped foundations, and minimal room for error, choosing the right retaining solution early makes everything else easier.

We supplied cast-in retaining wall units that tied directly into the RC floor slab, giving the developer a clean boundary line, reduced footprint, and proper long-term durability without overcomplicating the install.
