In between the showers this week; site visits with autumn colours & freshly upgraded forest roads around Invertrossachs, new planting scheme underway in the Scottish Borders with “one we did earlier” progressing well towards an early establishment and finally base stone being laid on a new road in Cowal in preparation of a future timber harvesting op.

Fingers crossed for some sunshine next week before evolution progresses to FM’s with webbed feet.

Trees with a view! Scorching today but really exciting growth on this crop after a years growth.

RDS Forestry are looking for forestry operators to assist with our current hand weeding, chemical and weevil spraying programme, and looking forward to the next beat-up and planting season in 2023.

We would be excited to speak to contractors in relation to sites in Kintyre, Argyll and around central Scotland about our expanding work programme. 👍

Our emphasis is on the management of traditional estates, timber harvesting & restocking supervision, forestry consultancy and new woodland creation projects. We are currently looking for individuals to join our team who have a passion for Forest Management with the experience and motivation to enhance and build on our reputation.

The ideal candidate will possess an ability to perform to a high standard and be able to demonstrate good communication skills to ensure high quality engagement with current and future clients as well as contractors and colleagues.

A sound knowledge of the Scottish Forestry Grant Scheme, forest plan design, management of new woodland operations will be advantageous. It is essential to be competent in ArcGIS as the role will require input to forest plans, woodland creations, property schedules and assisting with the management of our in-house resource. A full UK driving licence is essential.

Timber sale tendered earlier this year after a pro-longed period of planning, with input from Phil, John, Davie, Mike, Andy and many others! Site has many constraints including challenging access, steep slopes, ravine & hydro scheme adjacent to it. Timber purchased by Tilhill and managed by Mark with great work from Dick Brothers expertly harvested by Aaron; special mention to the hand cutters, winch work team and forwarder operators - I told them it wasn’t going to rain!

Also greatly appreciated collaboration from the neighbouring land owner with facilitation of a handling area and access.

New road day at Invertrossachs: great to see the progress and improved access for the next timber sale pending in early 2022.

The route certainly has challenging topography and extra tough material located within the highland boundary fault line, but Donald and the Drumclog team just keep on chapping…
