It’s an honour for Darney stone to play a part in such an important cultural space, adding both strength and character to a place that celebrates art and history.

These pictures are part of a project we are undertaking in the heart of London. They showcase a 1.2-tonne lintol and brackets that will support a 2.4-tonne Portland limestone coffered canopy. The final images display the fitted canopy stone.

We have been fortunate to work on several private homes over the years and have embraced the challenges and rewards of our latest project in Aberdeenshire. This project involved both the restoration and extension of an existing country mansion, creating the perfect home for its new owners.

All the chimneys and parapets were stripped and rebuilt, and extensive pointing work was completed. Additionally, we added a garage extension, a new porch, and steps, among other improvements. Hazeldean Sandstone was used for these works, making it an ideal choice for this environment.

We would like to thank Graham Construction Ltd for the opportunity to showcase our masonry skills on the historic Jenners Store in Edinburgh.

This building, designed by architect William Hamilton Beattie as a replacement for the original, lost to fire in 1892, is enriched with ornate features and received Category A listed status in the 1970s.

We are currently focused on restoring and conserving the main facades, enhancing our experienced team with conservators and carvers for the intricate work on statues, balconies, and finials.

In addition, our in-house drawing office is working on new build elements which encompass extensive development at roof level with a new corner tower, additional floor level and chimney works, all designed to blend with the existing architecture.

Further new build works also include solid construction masonry works to the Rose Street facade with a blend of natural stone and matching precast concrete panels and lintels.

They said it couldn’t be done……

A step back in time today to 30 years ago this year when the company appeared on the popular TV show Challenge Anneka.

We were given the task of moving Bathgate’s war memorial located half a mile up a hill via 48 steps to a more convenient spot in the town centre. This would make the monument more accessible to war veterans wishing to pay their respects.

Others said it couldn’t be done but our team managed it within the 3 day scope and just in time for the VE parade.

A great effort by all involved.

The iconic Gleneagles Townhouse has been expertly restored by ISG, Stirling Stone and 3DReid architects ,using Darney sandstone to breathe new life into this architectural gem.

This stunning transformation celebrates the building’s intricate stonework, grand columns, and classical details, ensuring its legacy continues to shine in the heart of the city. Gleneagles Townhouse was the culmination of a five-year project to convert the former Bank of Scotland headquarters into the grand hotel it is today. Darney sandstone had been used previously in the building’s original stonework.

Now standing as a luxurious destination, Gleneagles Townhouse seamlessly blends heritage with contemporary elegance. From careful restoration to modern enhancements, every detail reflects exceptional craftsmanship and respect for history.

3DReid won the GIA Awards Commercial category back in 2022 for their work on the project and in the same year the building was a finalist both at the AHEAD Awards Europe and Refurbishment Architect of the Year.
