: The Mere, Bolton 🏘️

This week, we’re looking back at our work on The Mere development in Bolton, where BTP Architects helped to deliver a ‘blind to tenure’ neighbourhood of 130 mixed dwellings.

The former brownfield site was transformed into a mixture of houses, bungalows and apartments, with the buildings and external environments designed in collaboration with an artist, as per Bolton council’s ‘percent-for-art’ policy - enhancing community regeneration through creative arts projects.

Despite its urban location, the site was surrounded by green spaces which also imparted on the final design.

BTP worked closely with Contour Housing, Bardsley Construction, Bolton MC and Irwell Valley Housing on the development, ensuring they delivered on each of the four clients’ specific briefs.

The Mere is a great example of extensive collaborative working and the development of an inner city neighbourhood.

International Day for the Eradication of Poverty - 17th October 2026 🤝

Today is the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, and an opportunity to spotlight some of our affordable homes developments that reflect how architecture and high-quality housing can transform people’s lives.

Projects such as Whitewell Court in Bacup, where BTP were architects to redevelop derelict flats that were a magnet for vandalism and petty crime, into affordable apartments specific to the needs of residents over 55. 

The development now provides much needed, high-quality accommodation, and an economic boost to the surrounding areas.

At BTP Architects, we are proud to deliver projects that renovate sites which are otherwise neglected or called for demolition, into safe and welcoming areas which residents can be proud to live in.

: Lodmore Lane, Burleydam 🏡🌿

This week, we’re looking back at our work on Lodmore Lane in Burleydam, Cheshire, where BTP Architects helped deliver 17 much-needed affordable homes for Jigsaw Homes.

The development conisted of 8 apartments and 9 houses designated for social rent with local prioritisation. 

Inspired by traditional rural barns, the development was sensitively designed to complement the village’s character and nearby Grade II listed Lodmore Hall, while creating new opportunities for local people to live and work in the area.

This was a challenging project due to the rural location of the site and lack of utilities or transport links.  

BTP worked closely with the Parish Council, Cheshire East Council, Homes England, Highways and Tyson Cosntruction to resolve these issues.

The scheme is a great example of how thoughtful design can support thriving rural communities and help address the shortage of affordable homes in the countryside.

This Transformation Tuesday we’re looking back on Balmain Terrace, where BTP designed an eight-bed respite care facility in an existing building in South Manchester for Irwell Valley Housing Association. 

The development provides high-quality accommodation for residents while giving carers essential respite time.

Meet the team member: Adrian Fuentes 👋

Adrian joined BTP as an Architect in August 2026, bringing with him over 10 years of experience in architecture.

Adrian started his professional career in Mexico in 2014 and in 2016, was awarded a national scholarship to study at the University of Sheffield, where he studied parametric architecture and interactive built systems.

During his studies, Adrian was awarded five stars in an international NASA competition and by 2017 he had graduated with a Distinction.

Adrian has been fortunate to work across a wide range of sectors, from aviation and high-rise residential towers to commercial developments and luxury residential projects.

He has always been interested in understanding how things are made and therefore particularly enjoys the process of taking an idea from concept through to construction.

Outside of work, Adrian has a few DIY projects going on around the house, probably too many if he’s honest 😉; but he also enjoys swimming, running, and listening to music. 🏊 🎶

Planning Submitted for 154 Affordable Homes in Irlam 🏘️

We're pleased to be leading the design for a proposed 154-home affordable housing development in Irlam for Forshaw Land & Property.

The plans include 76 houses and 78 apartments, delivering much-needed affordable homes for the local community. Designed to reflect the character of the surrounding area, the scheme combines durable, low-maintenance materials with contemporary architectural features.

We look forward to seeing the proposals progress through the planning process.

Meet the team member: Connor Brogden 👋

Connor has recently joined BTP as a Part II Architectural Assistant, bringing almost three years’ experience delivering a range of projects varying from the Uk’s leading sustainable care homes to high-end residential projects and commercial retrofit schemes. 🏡

Throughout this time, Connor has developed an appreciation for people-first accessible design that can be as efficient in delivery as it is in operation. 🏗️

Outside of practice, his time spent traveling has established a passion for the sustainable regeneration of post-industrial cities, often dragging his partner to obscure European cities on last minute Sky-scanner flights! ✈️

Connor is excited to develop his breadth of experience while learning from the talented team at BTP as he works towards his Part 3 qualification in the coming years. 🖊️

International Day for Older Persons 2026 🏡🫂

1st October is an opportunity to recognise the importance of creating homes and communities where people can live independently, safely and with dignity as they age.

At BTP Architects, we’re proud to have worked with Housing 21 on projects including Pomeroy Court providing 40 apartments and Povey Roadproviding 50 apartments, designing high-quality homes that put the needs and wellbeing of older residents at the heart of the design.
