Overboarding often just follows the existing roof, so ponding and incorrect drainage are not solved unless falls are designed into the new build-up

- Condensation risk
Adding layers without considering the complete warm-roof/cold-roof design can create interstitial condensation.

- Existing layers can become unstable
Failed felt, bubbling membranes or loose layers can move beneath the new deck.

- Hidden defects remain undisclosed
Potentially a problem for guarantees, future repairs and proving the condition of the roof

As a roofer, especially under NFRC CPS accredited. We have a duty to insulate any roof space to current regulations where needed. Some companies won’t include this and here’s why;

1. It’s a horrible job

Being inside a loft space is hot, dirty work 😷

2. Equates to a cheaper quote

Not having to insulate the roof space saves on material and labour savings. The down side to this is that thermal efficiency of your property isn’t being upgraded and along with this, the work would not be signed off for a Building Regulation Certificate (Which they should be providing you when they come to quote!)

3. Not a very reputable firm?

Some loft spaces are very tight and access near non existent. So when we remove the existing roof covering, is the perfect time to make these upgrades, as the client may not have the chance to tackle it again!

Work has commenced over on Heyworth Avenue. Transforming a 90 year old roof into a modern, up to date version.

We’re completely overhauling the pitched and flat roof elements. Replacing the rosemary tiles for a Sandtoft 20/20 clay tile, giving the flat roof a new lease of life and tackling the mortar work around the chimneys 🔨
