Another quality spray foam project by Green Horizon Energy Solutions! 💚🏡

This wasn’t simply a case of turning up and applying foam.

Before a single drop of foam was sprayed, we carried out a full roof assessment to ensure the property was suitable for spray foam insulation. Not every roof is the same, and making sure the correct specification is used is essential.

For this project we installed 225mm of KIWA-approved Insulthane 50 open-cell spray foam, providing exceptional thermal performance whilst allowing the roof structure to breathe as intended.

As part of our process we completed:

✅ Roof suitability assessment
✅ U-value calculations to meet Building Regulations
✅ Condensation risk analysis
✅ Building Control pre-approval before installation
✅ Installation using KIWA-approved Insulthane 50 open-cell foam
✅ Foam professionally cut back flush with the rafters, leaving the roof ready for plasterboarding

We believe spray foam should always be installed as part of a properly designed insulation system—not simply sprayed to an arbitrary thickness. Every project should be assessed individually to ensure the insulation performs correctly and complies with current regulations.

The result? A warm, energy-efficient roof with excellent thermal performance, reduced air leakage and a clean finish that’s ready for the next stage of the build.

❄️ Not every air conditioning installation is a simple straight through the wall… and that’s where experience makes all the difference.

Today’s installation was one of those jobs that really demonstrates the planning and attention to detail that goes into a quality installation.

The customer wanted a Mitsubishi Electric wall-mounted system, but there was no direct route to the outside. That meant carefully routing internal trunking around the room before exiting to the outdoor unit.

Is internal trunking our preferred method? No.

Whenever possible we conceal pipework within walls, lofts or floor voids. However, every property is different, and when surface-mounted trunking is the only option, our aim is to make it as neat and discreet as possible.

This installation also required a condensate pump. Rather than relying on gravity to remove the condensation produced during cooling, the pump quietly lifts the water up and away to a suitable drain point. It’s one of those hidden components that makes installations like this possible, and modern pumps are so quiet you’ll barely know they’re there.

This installation included:

✅ Carefully planned internal trunking
✅ Ultra-quiet condensate pump
✅ Anti-siphon protection with fully tested drainage
✅ UV-protected external pipe insulation
✅ Wi-Fi setup and MELCloud commissioning
✅ Full pressure testing, vacuum and commissioning

🌞 How energy efficient is modern air conditioning? VERY! 🌞

Yesterday, on the hottest day of the year so far, we had TWO air conditioning units running all day — one upstairs and one downstairs — keeping the house a lovely comfortable 20°C 🥶👌

Now here’s the crazy bit… 🤯

Taking into account we also had:

Another nice one underway for Green Horizon 👌

Here we’ve sprayed open cell foam directly to the underside of the roof deck above an indoor swimming pool area. This type of application really benefits from spray foam — creating a continuous insulation layer that follows every contour of the roof and helps improve overall airtightness.

With pool rooms running at high temperature and humidity, managing moisture is absolutely key. The open cell foam allows the structure to breathe while still providing excellent thermal performance, but it’s the full system that makes the difference.

Next step on this one will be installing a vapour barrier over the foam, followed by boarding to properly seal and finish the build-up 👍
