☕🐝 WHEN ALL YOU WANTED WAS A COFFEE… 🐝☕

Customer: “If you want a coffee, you’ll have to make it yourself.”

Me: “No problem at all!”

30 seconds later…

🚪 Opens cupboard door…

😳 “On second thoughts, I’ll have a water.”

Hidden inside the extractor pipe was this absolute monster of a wasp nest! While I was looking for a coffee mug, the wasps were apparently running their own café from inside the ducting.

It’s amazing where wasps decide to build their homes. Lofts, sheds, wall cavities… and now a kitchen extractor pipe!

The customer wanted a latte. The wasps wanted complete ownership of the kitchen.

Needless to say, the nest has now been professionally treated and the only buzzing left should be from the kettle.

🐝 WASP FACTS – DID YOU KNOW? 🐝

As wasp season starts to get underway, here are a few interesting facts about these often misunderstood insects:

🔸 A single wasp nest can contain up to 10,000 wasps by late summer.

🔸 Wasps are actually beneficial to the environment, helping to control flies, caterpillars and other garden pests.

🔸 A queen wasp starts a new nest on her own each spring, building the first few cells before her workers take over.

🔸 Unlike bees, a wasp can sting multiple times.

🔸 Most wasp nests are hidden away in lofts, sheds, wall cavities, bird boxes and underground burrows.

🔸 Wasps become more noticeable in late summer as natural food sources decline and they start searching for sugary foods and drinks.

🔸 Old wasp nests are never reused, although a new nest may be built nearby the following year.

⚠️ If you discover a wasp nest, avoid disturbing it or attempting DIY treatments. This can make the colony defensive and increase the risk of stings.
