Saturday shift with the apprentice to get this job ticked off ☑️ 😎🪚🔨

This customer had continued issues with harling collapsing surrounding a decking area we previously installed mainly due to damp in the walls.

It was decided an alternative solution was needed and Venetian style screening would be installed. All the remaining harling and loose material was removed from the wall prior to coating with black microseal masonry paint. 🎨
We then framed off the wall to get plumb joists to fit the battens too.

Using green treated redwood with 6mm gaps the custom built Venetian style screening leaves the customer with a hassle free, cost effective solution! ✅

7 day transformation of this garden in Stonehaven.

Day 1 it was difficult to know where to start so I started by getting my digger stuck trying to get access without removing the fence!! 🫠

But god loves a trier so once the digger was in it was time to get the garden to a blank canvas and everything stripped out. As always, all waste (timber, green and sub soil) is disposed of correctly at A&M Smith Recycling Services Limited. ♻️

Once all the ground prep was complete the summerhouse paving was laid, mainly as it was the furthest point in the garden and I like to work my way out the garden where possible.

Then on to the Talasey Promenade sandstone paving which really is the focal point of the garden, a sizeable patio area finished to a high standard. 🧩

The artificial grass area was reinstated and remaining areas finished with kemnay grey decorative chuckies.

Day 7 it was a difficult to know where to finish so I decided to get my digger stuck trying to get back out again 😂

Jokes aside this one’s been a pleasure, when someone trusts you to turn their garden upside down there’s no better feeling than leaving the job and knowing you’ve delivered just by the look on their face. 🤙

Bit of variation of late whilst keeping on top of grass also which has been growing like the clappers!! 😵‍💫

• Continuation of block paving around rear of property to connect existing paths for a repeat customer. This involved retaining the higher ground to meet the required levels.

• Replacement fence for a repeat customer. The opposite side fence was replaced back in September 2022, thankfully this time I didn’t cut through their tv aerial during the Queens funeral 🫠 👸

• Timber decking area which is most definitely in a sun trap but the customer knows how quickly the weather can change here so opted for a portion of the deck to be under cover should the rain try and spoil the days in the sun ☀️ 🌧️

• Replacing terracotta tiles with anthracite porcelain tiles at this property entrance. Tiles laid on BAL Flex One Plus adhesive and finished with Mapei ultracolor plus grout. Plenty cuts on this one to keep the brain focused 🧠 📐

• Custom made log store with 1m³ of logs for a customer getting stocked up for winter months. 🔥 🪵

Some recent work completed in Chapelton and Macduff. Today was a hot one in Macduff 🥵 I’ll not moan though as I sit here looking like a drumstick squashy!! Better that than a drowned rat 💦 🐀

The work in Chapelton was to allow better utilisation of awkward sloping spaces. The area will have a log-store positioned 🪵 and used to store wheelie bins which I’m told are partial to blowing around which I can quite believe in Chapelton 🌬️ 💨

Macduff was replacement of timber hand rails that had rotten and no longer fit for purpose. Was fine to get a news with the residents and listen to stories of their working life’s whilst they enjoyed the sun ☀️ 👌 the oldest resident approaching 104!!! 😳 👏

Does a day ever go as planned??? 🤷🏼‍♂️

Had to put MAN 24Mobile Service to test tonight…and I must say what a service MAN Truck & Bus provide!! Service as it should be!! 👏

After returning to my van tonight it wouldn’t unlock 🔓
Replaced the fob battery, tried the manual key but nothing 🤷🏼‍♂️ 🤬
Was kindly given a lift home so I could scoff my already cold tea 🍜 and get my spare key to try. Thankfully it worked so I could get my van home. 😮‍💨

Was half expecting to be told by Mobile24 to just take it to local depot for it to be sorted and loose half a day in the process but no…. Not an hour later was a tech at the door to reprogram the key and was more than helpful. A minor/low priority issue but backed up with a great service!! 👌 🔧

Today marks the milestone of 6 years since HM Tree & Landscapes Ltd turned from a business plan to what it is today.
Nothing like a “how it started” to “how it’s going” photo to reflect and take it all in! Thanks to AI it saved me some time that I don’t have to pull a photo together 🤣📸

I am proud of where the business is currently at and all that’s been achieved along the way but humble enough to know what it has taken to get there and so the effort glories on! 🫡

They say 50% of small businesses fail in the first 5 years so I held of until my 6th year before posting just to be sure 🤷🏼‍♂️😂 In all seriousness I can see how that can happen, so I guess on that there should be some sort of celebration! 🎉

But instead of just celebrating my business I’d like to celebrate every other small business owner who’s out there in the rat race striving to be something better than they were yesterday. 💪

Thank you to those closest to me, I’m sure you’re sick of hearing my “hardships”
but continue to stick by me through the good times and the tougher times 🫵
