π FAQ Friday π
Considering in-roof solar panels? Here are four more of the questions we get asked most often.
β How much maintenance do in-roof solar panels require?
Very little. Because Viridian Solar Clearline Fusion panels sit flush with your roof, rainfall naturally helps keep them clean in most UK conditions. We recommend a quick visual inspection once or twice a year, checking your system's performance through the monitoring app, and arranging a professional inspection every 3β5 years to keep everything performing at its best.
β Can in-roof solar panels be combined with battery storage?
Absolutely. We pair our in-roof solar systems with Tesla Powerwall 3 and Sigenergy battery storage, allowing you to store surplus energy generated during the day and use it in the evening. Battery storage can increase the amount of solar energy you use in your home from around 30β40% to as much as 70β90%.
β Are in-roof solar panels worth it?
If you're building a new home or replacing your roof, they certainly can be. Combining your roofing project with a solar installation can reduce the overall cost, while still delivering the same energy savings as a traditional on-roof system β typically Β£500βΒ£700 per year for a four-bedroom home.
β What's the difference between in-roof and on-roof solar panels?
Both generate the same clean electricity. The difference is how they're installed. On-roof panels are mounted above your existing tiles, while in-roof panels replace a section of the roof and sit flush with the roofline for a more integrated appearance. The right choice depends on your roof, budget and whether you're planning a new build or roof replacement.
