🌞 FAQ Friday 🌞

Considering in-roof solar panels? Here are four more of the questions we get asked most often.

❓ How much maintenance do in-roof solar panels require?
Very little. Because Viridian Solar Clearline Fusion panels sit flush with your roof, rainfall naturally helps keep them clean in most UK conditions. We recommend a quick visual inspection once or twice a year, checking your system's performance through the monitoring app, and arranging a professional inspection every 3–5 years to keep everything performing at its best.

❓ Can in-roof solar panels be combined with battery storage?
Absolutely. We pair our in-roof solar systems with Tesla Powerwall 3 and Sigenergy battery storage, allowing you to store surplus energy generated during the day and use it in the evening. Battery storage can increase the amount of solar energy you use in your home from around 30–40% to as much as 70–90%.

❓ Are in-roof solar panels worth it?
If you're building a new home or replacing your roof, they certainly can be. Combining your roofing project with a solar installation can reduce the overall cost, while still delivering the same energy savings as a traditional on-roof system – typically Β£500–£700 per year for a four-bedroom home.

❓ What's the difference between in-roof and on-roof solar panels?
Both generate the same clean electricity. The difference is how they're installed. On-roof panels are mounted above your existing tiles, while in-roof panels replace a section of the roof and sit flush with the roofline for a more integrated appearance. The right choice depends on your roof, budget and whether you're planning a new build or roof replacement.

🌞 FAQ Friday 🌞

Thinking about in-roof solar panels? Here are three more questions we get asked regularly.

❓ How long does an in-roof solar installation take?
Most residential in-roof solar installations take 2–3 days. The exact timeframe depends on the size of the system, your roof type, and whether the installation is taking place as part of a roof replacement. We'll agree a clear schedule with you beforehand and ensure your roof remains weathertight at the end of each working day.

❓ Which roof types are compatible with in-roof solar panels?
Our Viridian Solar Clearline Fusion panels are suitable for a wide range of roof types, including:
βœ… Concrete plain tile
βœ… Fibre cement slate
βœ… Clay plain tile
βœ… Natural slate
βœ… Hipped roofs
Flat roofs aren't suitable for in-roof solar, but we can recommend an on-roof or ground-mounted system instead.

❓ What warranty comes with Viridian Clearline Fusion panels?
Viridian Clearline Fusion panels come with a manufacturer product warranty and performance guarantee, while every installation is backed by our 5-year workmanship warranty. If you ever need to make a manufacturer warranty claim, we'll take care of it for you.

🌞 FAQ Friday 🌞

Thinking about in-roof solar panels? Here are the answers to three of the questions we're asked most often.

❓ What are in-roof solar panels?
In-roof solar panels are integrated directly into your roof, replacing a section of roof tiles rather than sitting on top of them. They generate the same clean electricity as standard solar panels but offer a sleek, low-profile finish that's especially popular for new builds and roof replacements.

❓ Do in-roof solar panels need planning permission?
In most cases, no. In-roof solar panels are usually covered by Permitted Development rights, provided the installation meets the relevant conditions. If your property is listed or in a conservation area, planning permission may be required. Not sure? Our team will guide you through everything during your free survey.

❓ How much do in-roof solar panels cost?
In-roof systems typically cost more than on-roof installations because they replace part of your roof. However, if you're building a new home or replacing your roof, the savings on roofing materials and scaffolding can help offset the additional cost.

🏑 Solar isn't just about saving money anymore – it's about taking control of your energy.

Rising energy prices, greater awareness of renewable technology and the desire for more energy independence are encouraging more households to make the switch to solar.

But it's not just about reducing electricity bills. Modern solar and battery storage systems give homeowners greater control over when and how they use their energy, helping protect against future price rises while reducing reliance on the grid.

In our latest blog, we explore:
β˜€οΈ Why solar is becoming a smarter long-term investment
πŸ”‹ How battery storage helps you get even more from your system
πŸ’· The financial and environmental benefits of generating your own electricity
⚑ Why now could be the ideal time to take control of your home's energy

Could your business save over Β£1,000 a month with commercial solar? β˜€οΈ

Our latest case study explores how Space Station Self Storage partnered with Stratford Energy Solutions to install a 79.2kWp solar PV and battery storage system at its Birmingham facility, helping the business reduce energy costs, lower carbon emissions and support its long-term sustainability goals.

The project is already delivering impressive results, including:
πŸ’Έ Around Β£1,195 average monthly electricity bill savings
πŸ”‹ 2 Tesla Powerwall 2 batteries to maximise on-site energy use
🌱 32 tonnes of COβ‚‚ emissions saved
πŸ’· A projected payback period of just 4.9 years
πŸ“ˆ Estimated lifetime net savings of more than Β£456,000

With large roof spaces and significant daytime energy demand, many warehouses, logistics facilities and industrial businesses could achieve similar benefits through commercial solar.

🌞 FAQ Friday 🌞

Thinking about going solar? Here are the answers to three of the questions we get asked most often.

❓ What happens to solar panels on cloudy days?
Solar panels generate electricity from daylight, not direct sunlight. On overcast days they produce less than on sunny days, but they do not stop generating entirely. The UK’s diffuse light conditions are factored into our system sizing calculations – a properly sized system accounts for the full range of British weather.

❓ Can I add battery storage to my existing solar panels?
Absolutely. Battery storage lets you store excess energy generated during the day and use it when the sun isn't shining, helping you reduce your reliance on the grid. We can install batteries alongside a new system or retrofit them to an existing one.

❓ Are solar panels worth it in the UK?
For most homeowners, yes. A typical four-bedroom home can save Β£500–£700 per year, with systems often paying for themselves in 5–7 years. After that, you'll continue enjoying lower energy bills for many years to come.

❓ What warranty comes with your solar panels?
Our premium solar panels come with manufacturer warranties of up to 40 years, giving you long-term peace of mind. If you ever need to make a warranty claim, we'll support you through the process. On top of that, every Stratford Energy Solutions installation is backed by our own 5-year workmanship warranty, giving you confidence that your system has been installed to the highest standards.

Many homeowners wait for energy prices to rise, new incentives to be announced, or the "right moment" to make the switch. But delaying could mean missing out on months (or even years) of energy savings.

Our latest blog post explores the key factors to consider before investing in solar, including:
βœ… Why waiting can cost more than you think
βœ… How to maximise your long-term savings
βœ… Whether now is the right time for your home

🌞 FAQ Friday 🌞

This week, we're answering three more of your most frequently asked questions about solar panels.

❓ Will solar panels work on my roof?
Most pitched roofs are suitable for solar panels, including those that face south, east or west. North-facing roofs with heavy shading are generally less effective. That's why we carry out a free property survey to assess your roof and provide honest advice on the energy your system could generate.

❓ How long does installation take?
Most residential solar panel installations are completed in just one to two days, with battery storage often installed during the same visit. We'll arrange a convenient installation date and always leave your home clean and tidy when the work is complete.

❓ Do I need planning permission for solar panels?
In most cases, no. Solar panels are usually classed as permitted development, provided they meet standard installation requirements. If your property is listed or located in a designated area, planning permission may be needed – but don't worry, we'll guide you through the process every step of the way.
