A recent garden transformation focused on reducing maintenance and creating a cleaner, more practical space 🌿

The existing raised beds had served their purpose, but were no longer the right fit for the customer’s lifestyle. We removed and levelled the area before preparing and reseeding it to form a new lawn—much easier to manage and maintain going forward.

All areas have been carefully prepped, seeded, and protected to give the new lawn the best possible start. Now it’s over to nature 🌱

If you’re looking to simplify your garden and cut down on upkeep, we’re always happy to help.

A nice little planting project completed this week 🌿

Stage 1 – Clearing & Preparation
The border was looking tired with a mix of weeds, old growth and compacted soil. Everything was cleared out and the bed was dug over thoroughly to loosen the soil and create a fresh planting space.

Stage 2 – Soil Improvement
Organic compost was added and worked into the soil to improve structure and nutrients. This gives the new plants the best possible start and helps retain moisture through the growing season.

Stage 3 – Plant Positioning
Before planting, everything was laid out to check spacing and balance. The scheme included:
• 5 × Hydrangea Paniculata ‘Little Lime’
• 3 × Taxus Baccata (Yew) Ball
• Nepeta ‘Purrsian Blue’ for low planting between shrubs

This combination gives a strong structure with the evergreen yew balls, beautiful summer flowers from the hydrangeas, and soft, pollinator-friendly planting from the nepeta.

Stage 4 – Planting & Finishing
Once the layout looked right, the plants were carefully planted, firmed in and watered well. The result is a clean, structured border that will fill out beautifully through the season.

Looking forward to seeing this border develop over the coming months 🌱

Another productive day out for TEC Gardens 🌳✂️

We were back with a valued repeat customer to carry out some seasonal apple tree pruning and a laurel reduction to help open up the garden and let much more light through.

The apples tree has been carefully pruned to improve structure, encourage healthy growth and set it up for a strong fruiting season ahead. The laurel was reduced and trimmed to brighten up the space without compromising privacy

All debris have been neatly stacked and left ready for shredding at a later date, keeping everything tidy and manageable.

If your fruit trees are due a prune or you’ve got hedges blocking out the light. Message TEC Gardens to get booked in. 🌿

Another small transformation completed by TEC Gardens 🌿

This project started as an overgrown grass cut — and has now evolved into regular fortnightly maintenance and a brand-new planting bed for the client.

✅ Turf carefully lifted and removed
✅ Timber edging installed to prevent grass encroachment
✅ Roses and geraniums planted (all bare-rooted) — 7 on one side and 3 on the opposite side
✅ Mycorrhizal fungi added to support strong root development and healthy growth
✅ Finished with a fresh mulch layer to retain moisture and improve soil health

Looking forward to seeing this bed establish and bring colour to the space over the coming seasons.

If you’re thinking about improving your garden or turning maintenance into something more, feel free to get in touch.

Before ➡️ After: Wisteria winter prune ✂️

Pruned today while the plant is dormant — the best time to cut back hard without stressing it. Winter pruning keeps the weight off the building and puts energy into flowers, not excess growth.

We’ve also started training it to wrap neatly around the corner of the house, guiding the main stems so it grows where we want it to, not into windows or gutters.

It looks bare now, but this is how you get strong structure and masses of blooms come spring 🌸

Few pictures of jobs completed over November and December.

We’ve been busy giving a beautiful snake bark maple (Acer davidii) a careful prune to enhance its natural structure and keep it healthy for years to come 🍁✂️

We’ve also planted three fantastic new trees, all supplied by the brilliant Chew Valley Trees 🌳👇

• Syringa vulgaris ‘Sensation’ – a stunning lilac with beautifully edged purple and white blooms

• Prunus serrulata ‘Royal Burgundy’ – rich burgundy foliage with eye-catching spring blossom

• Cotoneaster × watereri ‘Cornubia’ – perfect for year-round interest with flowers and berries

Thoughtful pruning and the right tree choices make all the difference to a garden’s long-term beauty and health. If you’re thinking about tree work or new planting, Tec Gardens would be happy to help.

🌲 Why Conifers Don’t Grow Back from Old Wood 🤔

Ever wondered why conifers don’t regrow once they’ve been cut back too far? Here’s why 👇

🌿 Apical dominance: Conifers grow mainly from their tips — that’s where most of their growth hormones are concentrated.

🌱 No dormant buds: Unlike some other trees and shrubs, conifers don’t have hidden buds on older wood that can sprout again after cutting.

☀️ Energy and focus: These trees put all their energy into growing upwards and outwards toward the sun. Once a branch is cut back beyond the green growth, it simply can’t regenerate.

✂️ How to Prune Conifers Correctly:
✅ Prune lightly and often – regular small trims keep them healthy and full.

✅ Only cut into green growth – avoid the old brown wood to prevent bare patches.

✅ Pick the right time – skip hot, dry weather so you don’t stress the plant.

✅ Use sharp, clean tools – blunt tools can cause damage and dieback.

✨ Third year in a row trimming this Taxus ✨

Each year it’s getting closer to those clean, crisp levels we’re aiming for. The driveway has a slight slope, so it’s a bit of a challenge keeping everything looking balanced – but the results are really starting to show.

💡 Top tip: lay out tarps before you start trimming. It makes the cleanup so much quicker and saves a lot of time later!

All finished with quiet, efficient Ego battery trimmers – no fumes, no fuss, just a sharp cut and a tidy finish.

🌿 A Busy Month at Tec Gardens! 🌿

What a few months it has been! From lush/ish and not so lush lawns to trimmed hedges and freshly mulched beds, we’ve been hard at work keeping your gardens looking their very best. 🌱✂️

This past month brought an unheard-of dry spell — one of the driest stretches we’ve seen in a long time! 💧 Despite the challenge, we’ve kept things thriving, and we’re beyond grateful for the recent rain finally giving our gardens the drink they’ve been waiting for. ☔

Here’s a look back at some of the projects we’ve been proud to work on — every lawn mowed, hedge shaped, and bed refreshed is a reminder of why we love what we do. 💚

Thank you to all our amazing clients for trusting us. Here’s to greener, healthier gardens ahead! 🌿✨

🌾✨ Last-minute teamwork at its best!

Called Rich from Gloucestershire Gardens yesterday — one of our commercial clients needed a meadow cut down fast. No problem… we loaded up the Grillo mower and got to work.

The machine chewed through the long grass like a champ, and by the end of the day the place was looking neat, tidy, and ready for business again.

A big shoutout to Gloucestershire Gardens for trusting us on short notice. This job is a great reminder that in our industry, we’re not just competitors — we’re colleagues. Supporting each other means clients get the best results, every time.

Here’s to more collaboration, more happy customers, and more freshly cut meadows! 🌱💪
