The rain has arrived, and we’ve been thinking about outdoor spaces designed to be enjoyed in every season.

Tucked up amongst the tree canopy at Elmore Treehouses, this might just be one of those places that’s even better when it rains.

A fond farewell to Arnav! After a well-earned break, which we hear has involved repeat watches of The Odyssey, Arnav will be returning to Cardiff to continue his master’s.

He will be very much missed at MHW and we wish him the very best of luck with the remainder of his Part II. Thanks for all your hard work Arnav, it’s been a pleasure having you as part of the team!

There’s a quiet satisfaction in seeing an idea evolve from drawing to reality. Thoughtful design, careful craftsmanship, and a respect for the existing building come together to create a home that sits quietly within its landscape, opening to light, views, and nature.

Planning submitted!

This multi-plot self-build scheme in the Cotswolds has been shaped by its landscape from the very beginning, embracing the hillside rather than fighting it.

Designed with local character and future self-builders in mind, it’s a project that reflects our belief that thoughtful architecture begins with understanding its place.

Working alongside our sister company , we’re looking forward to helping bring this vision to life and supporting future self-builders through the next stages of the journey.

Some projects only get better with time.

We’re pleased to share these wonderful recent photographs of a contemporary extension we completed several years ago.

Designed to sit sensitively within its conservation setting, the project reminds us that thoughtful architecture has a lasting impact. It continues to inspire new clients today, balancing old and new in a way that has matured beautifully over time, quietly settling into its surroundings.

We often debate where we can build.
Maybe we should be asking how well we do it.

We were reminded of this project recently, nearly 10 years on. A house that almost didn’t happen.

Not because of its impact, but because a line on a plan, the settlement boundary, said no.

So we rethought it.

Instead of placing a building on the landscape, we let it sit quietly within it. Set into the slope, beneath a meadow roof, preserving every view of the valley beyond.

Same site. Different approach.

Sometimes the right answer isn’t to push harder, but to design more carefully.

So here’s the question:
Are settlement boundaries too limiting, or do they push us towards better architecture?
