Structural steelwork professionally fire protected using Sherwin-Williams FX1003 intumescent coating to achieve a 60-minute fire rating.

Applied to a specified 1800-micron thickness for a private residential project, with inspection and sign-off completed by GBS Fireproofing.

Less than 6 months in… and already failing.

These railings were previously coated by another company without proper surface preparation — leading to rust and peeling far sooner than expected.

We stripped everything back with full abrasive blasting, followed by priming and a durable topcoat system designed for external use.

The result? A finish built to last, with an expected lifespan of 10–15 years.
