A smashing job by Jordan rebalancing this leggy beech 🧘 Following a large snap out the client was keen to start this trees management journey in the form of a crown reduction. Nice and selective, and as we don’t want to put it under shock but we reallllllly wanted to reduce some weight- this was the best solution 🌳

Coronet cutting – when the right tree calls 🌳

Not every tree has to come all the way down. In some situations, creating a habitat pole with coronet cuts is the best outcome for both safety and wildlife 💚

By making fractured, natural-looking cuts we mimic the way trees break during storms. This encourages natural decay processes, creates valuable habitat for birds, bats, insects and fungi, and helps retain biodiversity while reducing the risks associated with a full-sized tree.

Every tree is different, and coronet cutting isn’t suitable for every situation. But where the location, condition and management objectives allow, it’s a fantastic way to balance safety with conservation (our fav 😍).

Good arboriculture is about managing trees so they continue providing value for decades to come 🪵

We’ve recently been called out to a number of cases involving summer branch drop 🌳☀️

During periods of hot weather and dry conditions, trees can suddenly shed large limbs or branches without much warning. This is known as “summer branch drop” and it can become a real safety risk around homes, gardens, roads, driveways and public spaces.

Dead, weakened or overloaded branches are more likely to fail during the warmer months — especially after changes in temperature or heavy rainfall following dry spells.

If you’ve noticed cracked, hanging or suspicious-looking branches on your trees, it’s always best to get them checked professionally before they become dangerous.

Wait for it 🥹 There are many perks of working in nature everyday, and this was definitely one 🐥 Sound on for full nature effect 🧘‍♀️ 🔉

Tidy up time 🧹 This toppled tree had to be cleared for access round the lake, so we came in and safely cleared up. We left pretty much all of the timber for habitat, with a few choice pieces being turned into mushroom logs 🍄‍🟫 All wood chip was left in piles to mulch down, and we made sure to leave a perfectly snapped alder above the log pile to give the bugs and bats a lovely new home 🦇
