A recent call-out involved a damaged manhole cover at the entrance to a block of flats. The damage occurred when a contractor, using incorrect equipment, attempted to clear a blockage.

The damaged manhole cover could not be seated fully and now prevented the communal entrance door from opening correctly, creating a serious fire hazard.

To ensure maximum safety for this heavily used entrance, we replaced the damaged cover and frame with a new, secure, slide-out B125 cover and frame.

A customer was facing frequent blockages in their drainage system. They had been advised that a costly excavation would be necessary to remove concrete in the drain, which would involve digging down, breaking out the affected pipework, and then repairing the drain.

Our independent investigation, however, revealed a piece of concrete lodged in a 90° bend where it connected to the main run. This obstruction was causing problems for all flats on the scheme.

Fortunately, we were able to successfully dislodge and remove the obstruction. This saved the customer the expense and disruption of an excavation and pipe repair, much to their delight.

Multiple drainage firms were unable to unblock this drain. We had been recommended by a nearby resident to solve the problem.
We quickly established that the drain was collapsed and were given permission to carry out an exploratory excavation.
The drain had indeed collapsed. A plastic coupler had been crushed causing a severe offset and back falling pipework.
We fully excavated the drain in order to repair it. We found the reason for the collapse was a poorly done repair in the past. The clay drain had broken where it exited the building. The previous contractor had simply placed the plastic coupler a few millimeters onto the broken pipe and backfilled the hole, crushing the connector and pushing the pipework down several centimetres.
We removed exterior bricks and lintel in order to cut the drain squarely and form a sturdy connection.
A new section of drain was installed, wall repaired, and area backfilled to leave in good working order.

Customer contacted us after numerous blockages at a care home.
We investigated to find 5 extremely large displaced joints over 11 metres of pipe.
Being careful of electrical cables, telephone cable, surface water pipework and a rather large water main, we excavated, removed the broken pipework and replaced with new.
Ground was reinstated with the original grass where possible, slabs re-laid and the whole area thoroughly cleaned to leave in good order.

Customer had been having bad smells in the bathroom after having a new bath installed.
We discovered a open gully under the bath. The original contractor had glued on a plastic cap, drilled an over-sized hole and simply poked the waste through. This was causing smells to vent as it was not sealed.
For some reason the contactor had used a flexi-waste which was holding water where it was back-falling and bodged together a connection to the toilet overflow (which was installed the wrong way around).
We installed a syphon with an internal overflow into the toilet to remove the need for the overflow pipework which ran about 6 meters around the bathroom and under the bath.
We removed the glued plastic cap and installed a proper adapter in the 4 inch gully to create a tight seal, and installed a new waste.
We'd usually use solvent weld waste fittings, but because access was so difficult compression fittings made more sense.
Smells have completely vanished now.

Customer had been having a problem with blocked drains for some time.
There were no manholes on the property to investigate.

We traced and found a buried manhole chamber under the block paving. From here we found a mass of root causing the blockages, and traced another buried manhole chamber.
The chamber was completely compacted with root.

We removed all the root from the chamber and the drain, installed 2 new manhole covers and extended the block paved area at the customers request.

We don't just clear drains, we find and solve problems.
