A gas fire service involves a thorough inspection of the fire and its installation to ensure it's operating safely and efficiently, including checks of the flue, ventilation, pipework, gas pressure, and safety devices. You should get your fire serviced annually or according to manufacturer guidelines to prevent faults and maintain performance.
What a Gas Fire Service Involves
Fire Inspection:
The engineer checks the physical condition of the fire itself, including seals, heat exchangers, and any visible pipework.
Flue & Ventilation Checks:
The flue is tested for blockages or leaks using a smoke pellet to ensure combustion gases are safely expelled. Ventilation requirements are also checked to ensure adequate air supply.
Gas Safety Checks:
The gas pressure and rate are checked against manufacturer specifications to confirm the fire is burning correctly. A gas tightness test checks for any leaks.
Safety Device Testing:
All safety devices, such as the flame failure device, are tested to ensure they are functioning correctly.
Performance Testing:
A performance test is carried out to ensure the fire is operating at its best and most efficient.
Reporting:
A report is provided detailing the checks performed and any issues found.
