Happy National Dog Day! 🐾

Today we celebrate the dogs who greet us at the door, keep us company on the sofa and remind us what unconditional love looks like.

We're lucky to be surrounded by so many people who care deeply for their beloved companions, and that's something worth celebrating.

To mark the day, we asked our team to share their four-legged friends...

🐕 Harley – The golden child. Rumour has it, he's the only one who actually listens to Heather.
🎾 Ryder – Ball obsessed and winner of the waggiest tail three years running.
🩹 Rodney – The world's most accident-prone dog. Open heart surgery at two years old, 11 days in the hospital... all thanks to a grass seed. An eye-watering bill to match.
😎 Chester – An all-round legend and the easy-going one of the bunch.
💍 Doug – Once dove into a filthy pond whilst carrying an engagement ring on his collar. The ring was fine, thankfully.
👟 Heath & Ash – Ash has a habit of stealing shoes and sleeping with them. We don't make the rules!

Optimisation can only take us so far. What comes next?

We're looking forward to welcoming Andy Green to The Independent Vet Conference 2026.

As independent practices look ahead to a future shaped by change, pressure and new possibilities, Andy will lead a session that challenges us to look beyond where our practices are today and consider what they might become.

Together, we'll explore how practices can adapt and respond in the years ahead, the role of technology and, most importantly, people.

Andy will also be joined by a panel sharing real-world examples of practices doing things differently - including the challenges, successes and learning experiences along the way.

The CMA has published its draft orders, and there is still an opportunity for those across the veterinary profession to share their views.

Should you wait to sell your veterinary practice?

It's a question many practice owners ask themselves.

"I might wait another year."
"Perhaps the timing will be better later."
"I'll know when I'm ready."

Sometimes waiting is absolutely the right decision. Sometimes it isn't.

The key is understanding why you're waiting.

Are there specific goals you'd like to achieve before selling?

Do you want more time to strengthen the practice, develop your team, or put plans in place for the future?

Or is it simply that you're unsure what the next chapter looks like?

The reality is that there is rarely a "perfect" time to sell. The best decisions are usually made with a clear understanding of your personal goals, your practice's position, and the options available to you.
