We are urging residents to be vigilant following a series of burglaries which have resulted in car keys and vehicles being stolen.
In the most recent incident, a house in Yatton Keynell near Chippenham was broken into in the early hours of May 17. Four sets of car keys and one set of house keys were stolen, and three vehicles were then stolen – through extensive enquiries, all vehicles have since been recovered.
This incident is the latest in a series of 13 incidents reported in the north and west of the county in recent weeks. We are also aware of cross-border incidents in the Avon and Somerset area.
Det Con Thomas Carver said: “We’d like to urge residents to be vigilant and to take simple steps to protect their homes and vehicles - ensure all doors and windows are kept locked shut and keys are not kept in easily accessible places, such as bowls or hooks by the front door. Please also consider deterrents such as security lights and sound-activated CCTV.
“We’d like to reassure residents that officers are carrying out targeted patrols in affected areas, obtaining and reviewing all available CCTV and we continue to work closely with neighbouring forces to identify offenders as we know they will travel across county borders to carry out these burglaries. Your information is vital, and even small details can make a significant difference to our investigations. If you see something that doesn’t look right, please contact us straight away.”
Anyone with information should call 101 and ask for information to be passed to Central CID.
