It’s good to see more car thieves behind bars, especially a gang of 11 culprits. It’s just a pity that their average sentences were only 1 & 1/2yrs each. Great work by the Police in bringing them to justice though.

Recent burglaries

We are advising residents in Tamworth to be vigilant as we continue to investigate a spate of recent burglaries and attempted burglaries in the area.

On 5th January, we went to a property off Pennine Way in Stonydelph after a shed was broken into. Golf clubs, worth £700, were taken from inside.

Then, three days later on 8th January, officers were called to a home off Barlow Close, Amington, just after 4.15am. The suspect tried to get inside the home but was disturbed and left the area without taking anything.

Another attempted burglary was reported at a home off Bitterscote Lane, around 3am on 8th January. Nothing was taken.

Patrols have been stepped up in the areas whilst door-to-door and CCTV enquiries are taking place, alongside forensic examinations.

One man has since been charged with burglary offences in the area whilst our enquiries into the recent spate of reports continue.

Sergeant Sian Moran, of the Tamworth local policing team, said: “We are committed to acting on the concerns of the local community and going after those who seek to steal from people and businesses across Staffordshire.

“Anyone who might have any CCTV, doorbell or dashcam footage from the areas at the time of the incidents are urged to get in touch with us.”

There are a number of ways in which people can limit the chances of being targeted by opportunists, including:
• Keeping front and back doors locked at all times – even when you’re at home

Received a nice review from a potential customer today.

Sometimes, rather than charge a customer to go out & sort their door/lock problem out, if you notice it’s a simple fix (from a photo/s), it’s often better to tell them how to fix it themselves. Yes, you lose a paying job, but what goes round comes round; hopefully the customer will remember this & contact me if they have any other issues in the future, &/or recommend me to friends & family.

Man charged with vehicle theft offences

A man has been charged with vehicle theft offences after a number of vans were stolen from across Staffordshire, including in Tamworth recently.

Between August 2022 and January this year, a Ford Fiesta and a total of 20 Mercedes Sprinter vans were stolen.

Matthew John Bickley, aged 42, of Walsall, West Midlands, was arrested and has since been charged with conspiring to steal a motor vehicle.

He remains in police custody and is due to appear before magistrates at North Staffordshire Justice Centre today (Tuesday 7th March).

| A man arrested on suspicion of stealing a dozen cars after they were taken for test drives across the region has been charged.

Cars advertised for sale had been taken from unsuspecting owners either during, or following, test drives across , and .

Our specialist Vehicle Taskforce had been carrying out extensive enquiries since December and arrested the man on Thursday (19 January).

A 22-year-old man was charged with eight counts of theft of motor vehicles, two counts of fraud and blackmail. He was further charged with drugs and weapon offences.

West Midlands Police statement as four people arrested & seven suspected stolen vehicles seized after they stopped a car in this afternoon ⬇️

We have arrested four men and seized seven suspected stolen vehicles after stopping a car in Birmingham.

We received a call from a man who said his Hyundai i20 vehicle had been stolen last night from a hotel car park.

His car had a tracking device and officers from the Hodge Hill neighbourhood team were able to locate the vehicle this afternoon as it was in convoy with a suspected stolen red Seat Leon.

Both cars were driven into a car park in Ralph Road, Saltley but the Seat Leon drove back out after spotting our officers. We then stopped the vehicle in Alum Rock Road and arrested four men inside the vehicle.

The men, aged 29, 23 and two aged 19, were taken into custody on suspicion of stealing motor vehicles.

Inside the vehicle we discovered keys to six more suspected stolen vehicles parked in Ralph Road and we also recovered 23 stolen number plates.

Inspector Shameem Ahmed, neighbourhood policing manager at Birmingham East NPU, said: “This was great work by our team of officers from the Hodge Hill neighbourhood team.

We have seized seven suspected stolen vehicles and made four arrests in the process. We would appeal for anyone who may have any information to please contact us quoting log number 1535 of 22 January.”

Tamworth Policing Team are carrying out joint operations with the Central Motorway Policing Group and Warwickshire Police, working with specialist police units providing an increase in patrols in your area. This is to tackle vehicle crime.


We are urging you to please contact the police on either 101 (non-emergency) or 999 (in an emergency) should you see/hear anything suspicious regarding this.


It is becoming increasingly commonplace for offenders to use keyless technology such as fobs/relay devices to steal car keys.
