🚨 Rogue locksmiths are still a huge problem across the UK 🔐

Many people don’t realise how common this is until it happens to them. Someone gets locked out, searches online for a locksmith, sees a very cheap advert… and suddenly ends up being charged hundreds of pounds once the work has started.

This happens all across the country, not just in big cities.

The Master Locksmiths Association has now launched a UK Parliament petition calling for action on rogue emergency trade adverts. The aim is to stop misleading advertising, “bait and switch” pricing, and to require search engines to verify emergency trade advertisers properly.

While locksmiths are heavily affected, this problem actually impacts many emergency trades and most importantly the public.

⚠️ This petition isn’t just for locksmiths or MLA members.
It’s for everyone who wants to see fairer, more honest emergency services and better protection from scams.

While locksmiths are heavily affected, this is happening across many emergency trades, so the petition has been written to cover all trades.

Van starting… but not locking? That’s a problem.

Customer had a key that would start the van, but the remote central locking wouldn’t work at all. Not ideal when you’re in and out of your vehicle all day.

We supplied and programmed a new key - and even better, we managed to get the original key fully working again too.

No dealership delays. No unnecessary downtime.

We worked around his schedule so he could keep the van on the road and earning.

BBC Breakfast recently highlighted the growing issue of rogue locksmiths taking advantage of people when they’re at their most vulnerable. Unfortunately, this is happening all over the county, not just isolated cases.

If you ever need a locksmith, please protect yourself by doing a few simple checks first:

🔑 Always vet the locksmith
• Use recognised trade bodies such as the MLA
• Rely on trusted word of mouth and genuine local reviews
• Ask to see credentials and proof of who they are

🚩 Be cautious of very low call-out prices
• £39, £49, £59 call-outs are often a red flag
• These prices regularly turn into heavily inflated bills once work starts

💬 Ask upfront
• Always request a clear price or a realistic price range before anyone attends
• A professional locksmith will be open and transparent about costs
