Keeping Safe when returning to work with Legionella

As some businesses return to work, remember that buildings that have stood empty for some time, business owners will need to carry out a risk assessment for Legionella to ensure the safety for themselves and staff.

A few tips to ensure the water systems are safe to use;

1. Ensure the water is run through all taps within the building.
2. Start with the cold water and run for a minimum of 2 minutes this will flush the system.
3. Leave the room whilst the tap is running to prevent inhaling water droplets
4.Then turn the cold water off and run the hot water this will need to reach 60 degrees c this will kill any bacteria that is in the pipes (boilers and water heaters will need their thermostats set to 60 degree c)
5.Ensure all taps are free from limescale
6. Cold water storage tanks are free from debris. They have a lid and pipe insulation to keep the temperature of the water below 20 degrees c when stored.

All though we are following the government guidelines on social distancing and not entering properties that are occupied.
We were asked finish a bathroom for a client who hadn't moved into their new property, here's the end result. :-)
