Pollarding, what is it?
Pollarding is a pruning technique involving removing the upper branches off a tree, mainly for easy maintenance and to stop trees from outgrowing their space.
Can all trees be pollarded?
No, coniferous trees such as conifers, cedars and pines cannot be pollarded as they cannot “resprout”. Some deciduous trees such as Birches and Beeches do not take too kindly to pollarding.
Here’s an example we completed recently on a Weeping Willow as it was getting too big for the garden.
