We were pleased to be commissioned, through referral, to prepare a Method Statement for works involving a listed barn in Kent.

Drawing on our experience with listed buildings, the project required a detailed photographic survey of the existing structure, along with a carefully planned sequence of demolition works for an attached pole barn. This formed part of the submission to discharge planning conditions prior to work starting on site.

Great news from Chan Ung Architects Ltd! 🎉

We’re pleased to have secured approval for a Certificate of Lawfulness for Proposed Use or Development for a nail salon project in Surrey.

Our client had recently taken on the lease of an existing salon, only to discover that planning permission for the change of use had not been obtained by the previous owner. With the 2024 changes to planning enforcement rules in England—now applying a single 10-year rule—we carefully assessed the best way forward.

Although the salon had been operating for many years and may not have required planning permission depending on its lawful use at the time, the lack of clear supporting evidence meant that applying for an existing use certificate carried risk. Instead, we successfully applied for a proposed use certificate to give our client certainty moving forward.

A big thank you to the planning team at Reigate and Banstead Borough Council for their helpful guidance and quick turnaround—approving the application in just 4 weeks! This allowed our client to renew her lease with confidence and within her deadline.

We’re always grateful for client referrals—this project came through a previous client’s recommendation, which makes it even more rewarding.

Chan Ung Architects Ltd is delighted to annouce the long awaited good news. We have successfully obtained planning permision to convert and extend above an existing commercial building to create 6 new flats within the conservation area of Guildford towncentre!

This also includes the permission to refurbish existing shopfront and to modify the ground floor to accommodate services for the new flats.

Absolutely delighted to announce the long awaited decision on a planning application.

We have successfully obtained planning permission for the creation of 6 NEW FLATS above a commercial unit, and permission to refurbish the existing shopfront.

The existing building is in the desirable area of Guildford and located in the beautiful conservation area of the town centre.

The existing elevation on Angel Gate is in great need of renewal. Our proposal involves breathing life back to the shopfront and improving the overall experience of Angel Gate.

Planning approval granted for a Proposed Single Storey Rear Extension, Loft Extension with Dormers, Installation of Rooflights and Installation of High Level Windows to the Existing Side Elevation.

What a pleasure it has been to have had the opportunity to work on this elegant Victorian cottage. The site is backed onto a conservation area, so we had to be very well behaved with the proposed design, and to our delight the application sailed smoothly through planning.
