You often notice tree problems more once the weather changes.

A branch tapping against the roof.

Deadwood moving around in stronger winds.

A large limb hanging over the driveway.

Dense growth sitting close to gutters or buildings.

By late summer, trees are still in full leaf, so you get a useful picture of their size, weight and relationship with the surrounding property.
Winter preparation starts with observation.

Look at where the tree sits, what sits underneath the crown and how much the tree has grown during the year.

Sometimes pruning makes sense.

Sometimes removing deadwood is enough.

Sometimes the best decision is to leave the tree alone.

Winter tree problems often start long before winter arrives.

Late summer and early autumn give you a good opportunity to look at your trees before stronger winds and wetter weather arrive.

Look up into the crown.

Are there large dead branches?

Are branches rubbing against the house, roof or other structures?

Has the tree developed a noticeable lean?

Are there damaged or hanging branches left from previous storms?

Are there areas of the crown which look unusually sparse?

Winter preparation is less about heavily pruning every tree. The focus should sit on identifying problems early and carrying out appropriate work where needed.

A healthy, well managed tree often needs far less intervention than people expect.

As you're enjoying a cup of tea or sitting in the sunshine, have a look around your outdoor space.

Could you make better use of the lawn if there were a little more light?

Would the patio feel more inviting if the lower branches were a little higher?

A crown lift removes selected lower branches to create more clearance beneath the tree while keeping its natural shape.

Many gardens don't need dramatic changes. They simply need a little more room to breathe.

One of the questions we ask during a site visit is simple.

"𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗽𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗱𝗼𝗶𝗻𝗴?"

Sometimes the answer is parking more easily.

Sometimes it is walking through the garden without ducking.

Sometimes it is allowing more natural light to reach the lawn.

A crown lift addresses those everyday challenges by removing selected lower branches while preserving the tree's natural structure.

Where does the shade fall during the middle of the day?

Are there lower branches making part of the garden feel darker than it needs to be?

A mature tree should be something you enjoy. If the lower canopy has gradually crept down over the years, a crown lift is often enough to let more natural light reach the space below.

The tree keeps its height and character. Your garden simply feels brighter and more open.

Sometimes you only notice these things when you stop and look.

The garden hasn't grown.

The tree hasn't become smaller.

We've simply lifted the lower canopy by removing a few carefully selected branches.

More sky becomes visible. More light reaches the ground. Walking beneath the tree feels effortless.

Sometimes the biggest difference comes from the smallest adjustment.

𝗧𝗿𝗲𝗲𝘀 𝗻𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗽 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗴. ⁉️

The branches that were once well above your head slowly move into the space you use every day.

You begin ducking beneath them. The lawn becomes harder to mow. The patio feels a little darker than it used to.
That is where crown lifting helps.

By removing a small number of lower branches, we create more clearance beneath the tree while keeping the rest of the canopy exactly where it belongs.

It is often a simple change that makes a garden feel comfortable again.

A crown lift is the removal of selected lower branches from a tree. The height of the tree stays the same. The shape stays the same. We simply raise the canopy to create more space underneath.

People often choose crown lifting because low branches have started to block a path, make mowing awkward, reduce natural light or make the garden feel enclosed.

The result is often a brighter, more open space, while the tree keeps the character people love.
