New case study: Supporting communities to plant for the future 🌱

We are proud to have worked with Westmorland and Furness Council to deliver their Free Trees for Residents scheme, part of the wider One Tree per Resident project.

Through this initiative, thousands of native trees and hedgerow plants were supplied to local residents, schools and community groups, helping to create greener spaces, support biodiversity and encourage people to take part in planting across their own communities.

From logistics and species selection to reliable supply at scale, this project shows what can be achieved when councils and nurseries work closely together with a shared goal.

It is always rewarding to see trees leaving our nursery and becoming part of landscapes where they will grow, thrive and benefit people and wildlife for years to come.

Alba Trees has acquired the business and assets of Christies of Fochabers.

This acquisition secures the future of a long-established Scottish bare-root nursery and brings its people, expertise and production capability into the Alba Trees group. All 32 employees transfer, ensuring continuity for staff, customers and suppliers.

By combining Christies’ heritage in bare-root production with Alba Trees’ existing cell-grown operation, we can now offer a more resilient, flexible, one-stop solution across restocking, new woodland creation and hedging stock. It also strengthens our ability to support forestry and land management projects across the UK.

We look forward to investing in the long-term development of the Fochabers nursery, applying best practice in operations, biosecurity and agronomy, and continuing to support the rural economy in Moray and the north-east of Scotland.

Our Alba Trees lorry has been out across Scotland again this week, delivering trees and picking up some breath-taking views along the way.

From rolling hills and winter skies to quiet pine forests and water catching the light, it’s a real privilege to work in landscapes as special as these. 🌲

Scotland at its best, and a reminder of why woodland creation and habitat restoration matter.

Last week we were pleased to welcome Douglas Alexander MP for Lothian East , Secretary of State for Scotland and Stuart Goodall, Chief Executive of to Alba Trees for a tour of our East Lothian nurseries.

The visit was a great opportunity to discuss the role of commercial forestry and woodland creation in delivering the UK’s biodiversity and climate goals - and the importance of long-term confidence for growers, landowners and developers.

A highlight of the day was Douglas Alexander being introduced to one of our young Douglas Fir trees - a fitting match in name and species!

Thanks again to Douglas and Stuart for taking the time to visit and engage in a constructive discussion about the future of forestry in the UK, and to our Alba team for showcasing the work that goes on behind the scenes every day.
