Hillhouse Quarry Group is looking for an experienced Loading Shovel / Quarry Operative to join our operational production team at Hillhouse Quarry in Troon.

Working within a busy quarry environment, the role involves operating a loading shovel to load hoppers, crushers, screeners and vehicles with crushed aggregates, as well as moving and stocking products around the site.

We’re looking for someone with quarrying and loading experience who can work safely and effectively as part of a busy team.

A valid loading shovel ticket is preferred, ideally an MPQC Blue Card, although candidates with relevant experience who do not currently hold a valid ticket will also be considered.

A modern asphalt plant is about much more than the equipment it contains.

Every part of Edinburgh Asphalt has been designed to support efficient production, consistent quality and dependable customer service.

In this latest project update, Asphalt Production Manager Zander Calderwood takes us through the new plant at Soutra Mains Quarry, explaining how each stage of the production process contributes to reliable asphalt supply, from the cold feed bins and RAP system through to the mixer, hot storage and weighbridge.

Having helped develop three new asphalt plants during his career with Hillhouse Group, Zander shares the practical thinking behind the layout and operation of the facility, and why experience is just as important as investment.

Due to continued growth, Hillhouse Quarry Group is looking for a Quarry Materials Technician to join our Technical Operations Team based at Crossgates, supporting sites across the East of Scotland.

This is an excellent opportunity to develop a career in technical operations, carrying out the sampling and testing of asphalt, aggregates, ready-mix concrete and concrete products to ensure they meet the highest quality standards.

We're looking for someone with strong organisational and IT skills, a professional approach, and the ability to communicate effectively with colleagues and customers. A driving licence would be beneficial but is not essential.

We're looking for an experienced Road Surfacing Manager with a proven track record of delivering surfacing and street works projects safely, on time and within budget. You'll lead multiple surfacing squads, manage labour, plant and materials, and play a key role in maintaining the high standards our clients expect.

Temporary Class 2 Driver – HIAB Grab Vehicle
We're also recruiting a Temporary Class 2 HIAB Grab Driver to support our growing workload across the central belt. This role involves delivering and collecting materials from a variety of sites and requires previous HIAB Grab experience, a valid Class 2 licence, Driver CPC and Digital Tachograph card.

EDINBURGH ASPHALT

A major new asphalt facility for the east of Scotland is being developed by Hillhouse Group at Soutra Mains Quarry, Midlothian.

Opening is planned for autumn 2026, with Edinburgh Asphalt being built to support contractors, local authorities, developers and infrastructure projects across Edinburgh, the Lothians, the Borders and surrounding areas.

The new facility brings together experienced people, modern plant, reliable logistics and a commitment to quality from day one.

Over the coming weeks, we’ll be sharing more about the people behind the project, the plant being developed at Soutra Mains, and the systems being put in place to support product assurance, responsible operations and customer confidence.
