A great day in Lewes for Brian on Friday at the Urban Design Group’s More Homes, Better Places🌿conference – a valuable day of ideas, discussion and getting out to see regeneration and design schemes in action across the town. From green space to streets, it’s these everyday places that shape how people live, connect and move and make a place work. At HBA, it’s where we begin.

Always good to meet and reconnect with our peers, share ideas and learn from each other along the way too.

Perfectly timed as we’ve just secured planning for an exciting redevelopment project in Lewes - where landscape and community are at the heart of the design 🙌 Watch this space… 👀

Built environment professionals agree: 𝗻𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝘀𝗻’𝘁 𝗮𝘁 𝗼𝗱𝗱𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘄𝘁𝗵 - 𝗶𝘁’𝘀 𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝘁𝗼 𝗶𝘁🌿

We’re supporting a UK Garden City in developing a SuDS Selector to guide how sustainable drainage is effectively integrated into new development – from planning through to delivery. Well-designed SuDS manage water, support biodiversity and create greener, more attractive and resilient places - all essential to delivering long-term growth.

It’s been an unusual week for Team HBA - business as usual but also processing the aftermath of a fire in the basement beneath our office last weekend. From the initial cleaning down and checking tech worked and setting up a temporary office on Sunday ready for everyone to continue working seamlessly on Monday (massive thanks to Ian and Jess and to our brilliant landlord Simon and Helen as well as Cyprian who just helped as he’s a lovely person) to processing smoke damaged books, files, plants etc in full PPE today (huge thanks to Brian, Agnieszka and Elena - - you’d make great industrial cleaners if you weren’t Landscape Architects!). Feeling very grateful to have such great people around me who have kept the show on the road and kept us moving forward! Nicola 💚

🌞 Energized for a Dynamic Day in London! 🌞
Starting the day with bright skies and a refreshing chill in the air, heading to the Boardroom Briefing leadership event. Just around the corner from the Walkie Talkie, so a chance to enjoy the spectacularly verdant green wall by and - a perfect reminder of the beauty and joy of integrating green space and nature into our cities.
Today’s agenda is packed with insightful discussion on some of the critical issues and opportunities for the landscape sector for the year ahead. Networking, fresh perspectives and new opportunities. Looking forward to connecting with everyone and sharing the insights gained from today’s experiences. Have a great day everyone!

We love a cup of tea ☕️ But love a Christmas tea even more! This week we’re enjoying a loose-leaf Christmas Spiced Tea from based in Hastings, that our Elena has carefully made into sustainable tea bags and treated us to. Thank you!

Starting the day in style! Delivering landscape advice on the importance of good ground preparation and landscape delivery at a breakfast seminar at this morning with our clients Kent and their army of Site Managers, Technical teams and groundwork contractors. Early engagement with contractors and setting expectations from the outset. Hats off to BDW Kent for taking this approach to achieving quality landscape delivery 👏🌱💚

This now majestic Sycamore tree was previously hemmed in between dilapidated glasshouses and areas of broken hard standing and bramble scrub. Scroll right to see the before photo! ➡️

It’s now the focal point of a public open space on one of our residential-led development schemes. This particular part of this site had few existing positive landscape features so the Sycamore was particularly important to retain, nurture, and weave into the design proposals. Not only does it provide a sense of maturity to the landscape but its going to make a fantastic climbing tree and create the perfect shady spot for sitting and spinning its helicopter seeds 🚁🍁🌱

Dodging the rain today to take a walk through the landscape at Oakhill with local community groups and our clients . A couple of photos taken between showers ☔️ giving a flavour of some of the new planting - it’s really starting to knit well with the existing parkland. The scheme retains and draws inspiration from the existing mature parkland structure and areas of legacy planting by Tom Stuart Smith and contributes to a fabulous setting for the new homes and converted listed building. We can’t wait to see how this continues to flourish through the seasons 🌱🍁🌸🌿
