No, I'm not the tidiest of workers! 🙈 Today was all about tidying, sorting and prepping. I've got some commissions to work on over the coming weeks so I needed to get better organised. I wonder how long it'll last before I have no bench to work on again!

It's been a very busy year or so with a new job and a big focus on personal life. I won't bore anyone with the details!
I did manage to get round to starting (and finishing) a project for myself that had been in the pipeline for a really long time. Mostly made from scraps out of the workshop and a couple of donated IKEA units.

It's been an eventful few years for me as a handyman, I've worked for some amazing people, and experienced a huge variation of jobs and projects. I've enjoyed every minute of it.
However, it's time for a change. I've been offered a job and accepted. Starting next month, I'll no longer be a handyman. I'm booked up until I start the new job, so unfortunately won't be able to take on any new work.
I'd like to thank everyone I've worked for, for supporting a small local business, and for putting up with me for so long 😁
I'm going to keep this page open for my future woodworking projects as time allows.
Thank you.

When your van goes in for an MOT, what else to do but finish a project and start another?? I've been working on this one in between jobs, finally finished it today. A lovely piece of horse chestnut. I wanted to try out a bit of router carving on a turned piece, I'm happy with the outcome.

Replacement doors to smarten up a customer's under stairs cupboard. Even glossed them too!

A little sneaky peak of what I've been producing lately in the workshop. I managed to get these done before my bandsaw went 'bang'. I've got a few more to cut once I manage to work out what went wrong!

I absolutely love making these pens though! Oak, walnut, beech, elm, elm burr, yew, padauk, olive, my workshop floor was an interesting mix of coloured shavings.

Bit of a labour of love this one. All made from left over bits from other jobs, an unwanted chest of drawers and even an old dining table! We needed to fill the space either side of the Welsh dresser, so I chipped away at these two units in between jobs and the occasional weekend. Apart from another few coats of green needed, they came out ok, I think!

After getting their keys in September, I've been helping a family settle into their new home with various jobs over the last few months. Including putting up blinds on windows and doors, installing exterior lights, putting together various furniture, hanging pictures and mirrors, papering a feature wall and most recently, constructing a feature partition. If you look closely, I even had a little help from the dog!

I finally remembered to take photos before (almost), during and after a job! This bedroom had just been internally insulated and left freshly plastered with new skirts put on. Several coats of paint later, it's. Now ready for the new tenants.

When you're a kid, you make stuff for your parents. Mother's and Father's Day cards, Easter baskets, you name it. I'm still making stuff for them in my forties! This is a birthday present for my mum.
A couple of years ago, a lady I worked for was getting rid of a mahogany Welsh dresser, she kindly offered it to me. The grain and figure always made me think of old books. So this idea had been floating round in my head since then! I chose some lovely maple for its colour and grain pattern for the pages and I won some Welsh pippy oak a while back from a timber merchant down there. It was perfect for the secret draw and 'bookmark'.
I just hope she likes it!

It was nice to get some workshop hours in, making some custom doors to close off a customer's under-eaves storage.
