13A plug-top heaters or any appliance drawing close to 3kW continuously will place a sustained high load on a socket outlet. If the socket is worn or of poor quality, particularly where the sprung contact tension on the live pin has degraded, this can increase contact resistance. Even small increases in resistance at these terminals generate heat under load. Over time, this can lead to overheating, damage to the socket, and in severe cases, a fire risk.
