Last week, we carried out an Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) for a local homeowner and uncovered some serious issues:
1️⃣ Outdated Consumer Unit
The old fuse box didn’t meet modern safety standards. We upgraded it to include:
RCBOs for better protection. These devices isolate faults circuit by circuit, reducing the risk of electric shocks and keeping power running elsewhere in the home.
SPD Protection to guard against surges caused by power cuts or lightning strikes, protecting your appliances from damage.
2️⃣ Missing Gas Bonding
We noticed the gas bonding had been removed when the meter was changed. This bonding is essential to prevent potential electric shocks and ensure everything is properly earthed.
3️⃣ Loose Connections
Loose connections might seem small, but they can cause overheating, which increases the risk of fires and damages your electrical system. Fixing them is vital to keeping your home safe and running efficiently.
⚡ The result? A safer, more reliable electrical system for the customer.
💡 Did you know?
- Homeowners are recommended to have an EICR every 10 years to ensure their electrics remain safe and up to standard.
- For rental properties, it’s a legal requirement to have an EICR every 5 years, but it’s also advised to carry one out at every change of tenancy to ensure tenant safety.
