Awesome to be part of the discussion panel at last night’s screening of Beyond Bricks by Cornwall Climate Care at the Wadebridge Regal Cinema.
It was great to see such strong audience interaction and to discuss the housing challenges facing Wadebridge, neighbouring parishes, and surrounding rural areas of Cornwall. Conversations covered the impact of large housing developments on local wildlife habitats, rivers, and the unique character of our town, while also recognising the need for more affordable, warm and energy efficient housing for local people — especially younger members of the community trying to buy their first home when second homes have inflated prices over the years and reduced availability of existing, often left empty properties.
Its a huge subject so I'm grateful to Jemma for helping make the evening run so smoothly, to fellow panellist Elouise from Langarth Garden Village, and to everyone who came along to watch the film and take part in the discussion.
Definitely outside of my comfort zone, but I feel passionately about my local town and the unique surrounding Cornish landscape that I’ve been privileged enough to grow up in and call home.
