Intruder alarm back up batteries why and when they should be changed …..
As part of an annual service the back up battery is inspected inside the control panel, it is recommend they are changed in 3-4 year interval’s or when your system alerts you to a fault. The batteries degrade over time.
If your battery is not healthy it will not power the alarm during a power cut so likley the alarm will sound.
If the battery is left in the panel past its lifespan or unable to re charge after power cut, chemical degradation can cause the casing to swell.
In extreme cases of unchanged batteries over long periods they can become overcharged or release lead sulphite which can damage the internal circuit board in the control panel.
Alarm servicing is important part of our business, protecting your property and try prevent issues before they occur, we work with most major alarm systems and pricing starts from £65 plus vat!
