This lead was found on a job by Rob and very rightly he failed it, removed it from service and replaced it with the correct lead.

Why is this wrong? Well because to the untrained person, it looks like any other lead. When someone is raking around a draw for a new lead for their projector or laptop charger they come across this.

The 3-hole end which we call “cloverleaf” fits in the socket of your device so you plug it in. What youre not aware of, is that it has 3 holes because it needs Live, Neutral and Earth.

But the cable it’s attached to doesn’t have an earth wire, and the plug has an insulated “earth” pin, so the earth protection the device needs to operate safely is not present in the lead.

That’s why we removed it from service.

Very dodgy lead found by Rob - plug with insulated earth pin but the other end is a cloverleaf IEC lead, used for laptops, projectors etc that require earth protection. Furthermore the cable is 2 core.

Littered with mistakes this a good example of cheap rubbish brought into the UK by cheap online traders.
