Sprinter no2!
Where do I start??? 😳
Maybe at the beginning?! Nick got in touch with me back in 2023 to book his Mercedes Sprinter project van for a Raptor paint job! Unfortunately due to various unforeseen circumstances, he didn’t actually bring it to me for nearly 2 years after making the booking! 😮
But as soon as he was able, he jumped in this behemoth jalopy of a van and travelled up the country to HQ 😎 That was back in December, maybe January - I honestly can’t remember now 🤦🏻‍♂️😂 But it was with the understanding that I wouldn’t be able to actually start it until March/april 😬
So the big ole sprinter has been in & out of the shop more times than possibly me, shuffled from pillar to post, swore at, became fixtures & fittings, and generally took up a lot of real estate for the past 10 months 😳😳😳😂😂😂
When we finally got down to business, it was time to get serious! Nick had a vision, an ideal, a crazy dream! Based on another van called The Hulk, with inspiration from extreme polar vehicles, and many other wants & needs! Nick had started the work inside…….and outside 😬😬😬 To fit the enormous tyres under the arches, he simply cut them off 😂 Then bolted some unsightly plastic arches on top 🤦🏻‍♂️ These HAD to go! WE needed to do better! 👍🏼 So Jay being Jay, designed and fabricated the first all steel wide arches for the big Merc 😎😎😎 His fabrication and engineering skills shined and the results speak for themselves! He retained the factory shape and look from the side, but added 4” to cover those huge rubber balloons called tyres! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Once he’d finished the custom work, it was finally down to me to smooth everything out, reconstruct the rear doors - they were totally tatered due to the weight being carried, and some accident damage - so a few days of shaping, smoothing and reinforcing ensued! 🥵
Eventually the body was straight, rust, dents, and all manner of bodywork issues sorted, and it was into epoxy! This was a milestone, it always is, but after all this time, it was a turning point! 🥳😂
The Raptor followed straight after - RAL6022 Olive Drab over standard black - I love this combo and it’s perfect for this build! 😎 A nice mix of textures gives this hulk-buster a fantastic look! 💪🏼
Add the decorative spade, rocket tubes & ladder on the sides, spare wheel carrier and generator carrier on the back, the newly installed light-bar on the roof, the freshly powder coated roofrack, and we have a serious build on our hands! 😃 We also wired up the bonnet lights when we installed the light-bar, so this thing can now light up the future 🤩😂
Now this should have been the end of the story, but no! There was a little thing called an MOT that was required before it could leave! 😱 The last fail sheet was extensive - possibly longer than this write up 🤦🏻‍♂️😂 So cue Jay and my dad - they worked through every little bit of the sheet, every issue, every fault, every requirement! From new rear brake/handbrake shoes including full adjustment, replacing the steering wheel to get the airbag light off and safety features reinstated, seat belts fitted properly (as Nick had fitted 6 Nissan Elgrand seats which weren’t the most compatible with the Mercedes wiring etc 😬), then the rear seats required belt mountings, so Jay welded in some serious box section to make everything solid, safe & compliant, then they drilled & bolted all 6 seats (which had been previously welded to the floor!), the list probably goes on, but my brain can only hold so much information 🤦🏻‍♂️😂
So after all this, we got the MOT certificate 🥳🥳🥳 Which meant the van could finally go home 🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳😂
Shortly after Nick came up with his lovely wife & son, and their reactions were perfect! 😍
I think we nailed the brief after countless hours of fabrication, prep, paint, repair & custom touches 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Thank you so much for the business Nick, and the opportunity to be a part of a huge project - I really can’t wait to see you finish the interior and drive to the North Pole in it 😎😂
Again thanks to Jay for some seriously cool work, and a lot of additional time working through every issue the sprinter could throw at us 👊🏼👊🏼👊🏼 Thanks to my Dad for all his work and help 🫶🏼 Thanks to my team 🥰
And if you made it this far, thanks to you for reading 🙏🏼🤣

Last week this 4x4 beauty left HQ after around 10 weeks of on & off pampering 😎
Calum brought his Sprinter down from Bonnie Scotland to get it looking how it was born to! 😁 But before I could get my hands on it, there was some major surgery to do! 😬
Pretty much every lower panel around the van was either corroded or showing early signs - so Calum agreed it was best to address the problems before they got worse - never great after having a fresh paint job!
So Jay got to work methodically removing each panel, cleaning up the inner panels, patching where necessary & epoxy priming, before replacing with new panels 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
The worst part for both Jay & me was above the sliding door - a very awkward shaped area where there isn’t a replacement panel you can buy, so Jay had to fashion the sections that were removed, then I had to shape it all up after - a lot of time for both of us on our tip toes on the platforms, and some very strained shoulders by the end of it 🤦🏻‍♂️😂
But once Jay had got the big beastie solid and rot free, it was down to me to grind it down, smooth it out, and shape it up 😎
Eventually after about 5 or 6 weekends and a few extra days of welding & repairs, then another week or 2 of prep, it was finally into epoxy and ready for Raptor 😀
Calum opted for RAL7021 grey-black over standard black, which I’ve used a few times and always looks the business 😎😎😎
The final result is a super smart, tough, like new finish, ready for trekking around Scotland and hopefully much further afield! 👍🏼
Thank you for the business Calum, it was a great project and van to work on! I appreciate you bringing it all the way down the country to get the job done right 👊🏼
As always a huge thank you to my LC team for helping move the job along, and obviously Jay for his sterling fabrication & welding, and everything else you do to get these jobs finished 👊🏼🙏🏼

2 big Bavarian beasts left LCHQ this week! 1 after 10 months, 1 after just 10 weeks! An immense amount of work went into both - definitely no 2 day turn around scotch-n-go jobs 🤣🤣🤣
Full posts coming in the next couple of days - I’m taking the evening off to decompress and rethink my life choices 😂😂😂

As promised here’s the full post of the first full camper conversion we’ve done in over 3 years 😎
Elizabeth is a previous Raptor AND Conversion customer of ours - if she has any more work done I’ll have to start a loyalty scheme 🤦🏻‍♂️ Especially as she hails from
Scotland, and keeps coming back to us! 😎
Her previous van was a short wheelbase, low roof crafter, but she’s upped her Crafter game this time, dropping off her new shape medium wheelbase, complete with flame red paint and bodykit back in May 😎😎😎
The brief for the interior was a polar opposite of the sporty, modern exterior - a bit hippyish, boho, definitely NOT beige and vanilla!!! 😂
Must have dog accommodation for 3 pooch’s, a bed, somewhere to sit, somewhere to put stuff 👍🏼
Other than that I had free reign 😁😁😁
So as you can see, I went with my comfort zone of reclaimed materials, aged looks, but with a very bright (if a little muted at times) colour-scheme. A mix of processes, colours & finishes throughout the build, but every single piece hand picked, cut, prepped, fitted, removed, painted/finished, and refitted! 😳 I have literally been in & out of this van over 1000 times in the last 3 months 🥵😂
Obviously the job started with a full strip of the interior - all ply/plastic panels removed, metalwork cleaned, 3 side windows installed, then panels sound deadened, insulated, cabling run throughout, closed cell vapour barrier, 4 way stretch carpeted everywhere! All before a single piece of former pallet touched the van! 😎
I won’t bore you with the details of the couple of hundred hours of woodwork, but I will say power to the habitation area comes from the starter battery and a 200w solar panel, via a 50amp DC to DC charger/mppt controller, all protected by mega fuses, cut off switches, trip switches, connected to a blade fuseboard, feeding usb charger sockets on the kitchen worktop, each rear corner, & to the side of the bed. There are also 2 12v sockets on the lower rear corners, and 1 under the kitchen unit for the cooler. The main lights and upper cupboard lights are controlled from the kitchen worktop, and the bed/reading lights are individually switched. For air flow there’s a manual skylight towards the front, and a Deluxe Maxxair fain towards the rear. There’s a diesel heater under 1 of the seats, a flip up table on the side of the bed which also acts as a door to the doggy are under the bed. There’s an additional piece of workshop that slits in behind the cab for longer stays - this also can be mounted outside over the step for outdoor cooking 😎
We cut a walk-through in the can bulkhead so Elizabeth can access the rear of the van without having to go outside if it’s raining, and also so she can jump in the drivers seat and move off in an emergency 😎
It may look like a “basic” job to some - no actual fridge, built in cooker, running water etc etc etc, but sooo much has gone into this build - it has the basics, and is expandable if required, it’s what was asked for, and hopefully a little more 🤞🏼

Thank you so much Elizabeth for your continued support, business, and faith in Legacy Customs 🙏🏼 This has been a hard slog, culminating in a 15 hour shift the day before you arrived to collect 🥵 But it has been fun and immensely rewarding! 🤓

A huge thanks as always to the LC crew/family - my dad has been running all over the place collecting bits, helping me wherever he could, Jay as always keeping me motivated and doing anything he can to push the job along (even pulling the final 15 hour shift with me - unpaid might I add!), and Kerri for her support, and for jumping in at the 12th hour to get the curtains & blind knocked out in amazing fashion 😀🙏🏼 Couldn’t do it without you guys 🫶🏼

Full post coming tomorrow of what we’ve been up to for the last couple of months - just to prove we don’t just do Raptor 😎😂🤙🏼

Excuse the video quality, I think my dad dropped his phone in varnish 😂

There’s been so much going on at HQ this year, but nothing seems to want to be finished or leave 🤦🏻‍♂️
For the past few months we have been working on 3 longer term projects for customers, which probably wasn’t a wise move, but it is what it is 🤷🏻‍♂️ The first of those should be finished in the next week or so 😎
But something that did come in, and leave in a timely fashion was our very own Lindsey’s daughter’s Citroen Berlingo 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
It was suffering with lacquer peel in various places, and was generally looking tired and a bit boring 😬 So the decision was made to spice things up with a full Raptor paint job in Purple Violet over black 😎😎😎
The paintwork came out beautifully after a couple of weeks of prepping and smoothing the odd dink here & there 👍🏼 The colour pops in the sunlight and definitely suits the owner much better now 😀
Thank you Lindsey for the opportunity to work on something small for once 👍🏼😂 Really happy to help on this project 😎🤙🏼
