We LOVE a client who isn't afraid of colour.

📣 𝗪𝗘’𝗥𝗘 𝗛𝗜𝗥𝗜𝗡𝗚 – 𝗔𝗗𝗠𝗜𝗡 / 𝗦𝗔𝗟𝗘𝗦 𝗥𝗢𝗟𝗘

We’re looking for a confident, friendly and organised person to join our decorating company.

The role involves:

📍 Attending client/site meetings throughout Somerset, Wiltshire and BANES.
🤝 Meeting and speaking with customers
📸 Taking photos & videos of the work
📝 Gathering job information and requirements
💻 Writing everything up and uploading it to Google Drive
🏠 Representing our company professionally

Set working days but flexible on which ones | Paid hourly | Part-time

Decorating experience isn’t essential but we’re looking for someone who is good with people, organised, reliable and confident.

Driving licence & own transport essential.

👀 The bits people forget about when they’re planning to decorate a room…

Walls? Obviously.
Ceiling? Probably.

But then there’s…

🚪 Door frames
🪵 Skirting boards
🪟 Window sills
🔥 Radiators (even those little bits behind too)
🎨 Internal doors
🖌️ Picture rails, dado rails and all those lovely little period details

It’s amazing how much difference those “background” bits make once everything is freshly finished.

You can completely change the feel of a room just by giving the woodwork some proper attention, especially if you’re brave enough to move away from white. 👀
We’ve seen deep blues, greens, soft neutrals and contrasting trims completely transform otherwise simple rooms.

So here’s today’s question…

🏠 𝗢𝗻𝗲 𝗿𝗼𝗼𝗺 𝗶𝘀 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴… 𝗯𝘂𝘁 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗻𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗪𝗛𝗢𝗟𝗘 𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱𝘀 𝗱𝗼𝗶𝗻𝗴?

👀 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝗱𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗮𝗯𝗹𝘆 𝗱𝗼𝗻'𝘁…

We can't help it. 😂

Spend enough years painting, decorating and tiling and apparently you develop the ability to walk into a room and immediately spot...

🎨 That tiny bit of wall paint that's crept onto the ceiling.

📏 The wallpaper join that's ever-so-slightly out.

🪵 The bit of woodwork everyone else thinks looks absolutely fine.

🧱 The tile that's just a fraction out of line.

🖌️ The little patch that's somehow had one coat less than everything around it.

👀 And the unmistakable signs that somebody once thought, “Nobody will notice if I just paint around that…”

We notice.

We ALWAYS notice. 😂

It's probably why we're so fussy about the little details on our own jobs. Once you've seen it, you can't unsee it!

✨ Tiles can completely change the feel of a room.

Sometimes they quietly pull everything together…

And sometimes they’re the bit that steals the show. 😍

From classic metro tiles and bold colour to patterned floors and statement finishes, there are so many ways to use tiles in a space.

The layout.

The colour.

The grout.

The finish.

All those little choices can make a huge difference to the final look.

And yes… after enough tiling jobs, you really do start noticing grout lines everywhere you go. 😂

Meet Jess, Lillypad’s Lead Decorator! 👋

If you’ve followed us for a while, you’ll probably recognise her already. Jess has been decorating for five years and has been part of Lillypad for almost four of them.

🎨 Speedy cutting in.

𝗛𝗲𝗿 𝗳𝗮𝘃𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗷𝗼𝗯𝘀

The big transformations. Taking old, tired rooms and turning them into something bold, gorgeous, modern and fabulous. ✨

𝗛𝗲𝗿 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗳𝗮𝘃𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲?

📦 Carrying aaaalllll the kit in and out of jobs.

Especially when somebody casually mentions there are several flights of stairs involved. 😂

🎨 It's funny...

The painting is usually the part everyone notices.

But it's everything that happens before that which makes the biggest difference.

Masking.

Dust sheets.

Carefully cutting in.

Protecting every surface.

It isn't the glamorous part of decorating.

It's also the bit that rarely makes it onto social media.

But it's one of the biggest reasons a finished room looks so good.

Those crisp paint lines.

Those clean edges.

That feeling when everything just looks... right.

It doesn't happen by accident.

It starts long before the first full coat of paint goes on.

At Lillypad, we never rush the preparation because we know it's what creates a finish that lasts and helps us leave your home just as tidy as we found it.

The painting gets all the compliments...

But the prep deserves a little credit too. 💚

😂 Well... the results are in!

Last week we asked "What's the decorating job you hate the most?"

We weren't expecting quite so many replies...

After counting them all, there was one clear winner...

🥁🥁🥁

SANDING.

Which, judging by this photo of Jess... probably isn't too surprising. 😅

Closely followed by...

🥈 Prep work (masking, filling holes and moving furniture)
🥉 Glossing woodwork
🏅 Stripping wallpaper
🏅 Ceilings
🏅 Cutting in

The funny thing is...

Even decorators have jobs we'd happily skip if we could.

The difference is we've picked up plenty of tricks over the years to make those jobs quicker, cleaner and (slightly!) less painful.

Although... we'd still swap a day of sanding for hanging beautiful wallpaper any day. 😂
