A FAULT with a bedside light-fitting started a fire at a house in Orford, Warrington yesterday (Sunday).

Today on “what’s that smell?” This overloaded feed to a welder has caused much damage. Make sure your installation is up to the task and have it checked out. This could have been much worse had it turned into a full on fire.

Todays lesson in Electrical 101, when installing a new consumer unit that is made of metal to limit the possibility of fire escape, don’t knock great big holes in it rendering it useless. I’m shocked at how many of these I come across. Make sure you are receiving what you are paying for and that all works are certified by a competent person. (This customer was very disappointed and has gone away to ask the original installer to put this right, we will wait and see if they come back…
