Got in a quick site visit to another project today before the weekend.

Still a way to go, and lots of post-construction cleaning and detailing to do, but all coming along nicely.

These guys are the best clients anyone could wish for, and have become firm friends :)

The blue engineering brick adds a modern dimension to the historic fabric of the area, mixing it up with old timber beam and render, red brick, slate, and the recently repaired sandstone garden wall.

The new wall is exposed internally too, so the the play of materials can be appreciated from the warmth of the sofa! The tiled floor will continue outside at the same level once the new external slab is down, and the remodelled older extension will be very dark rendered to bring the ground floor together coherently.

Underfloor heating throughout to keep things toasty, and the new utility room and shower rooms will be accessed through hidden doors in the kitchen units once complete.

Stairs to first floor have been relocated, and where once there was a disjointed, neglected and tired building, will instead be a newly welcoming, open, and airy home.

The one we call ‘The Bat Cave’.

We tentatively suggested removing the upper ground floor of this four storey townhouse, to create an enormous 6m high lower ground floor kitchen and living space, with a full height tiered display wall accessed by a hinged rolling ladder. Our Client laughed and said they loved the idea.

Then we suggested removing the back wall and external corner at lower ground floor and replacing it with a discrete external steel column and sliding glazed panels. Our Client laughed and said they loved the idea.

Then we suggested removing the back wall and external corner at upper ground level, and replacing it with a glazed box standing on steel stilts to create a raised sun room / chill space. Our Client laughed and said they loved the idea.

Then we suggested removing part of the spine wall at upper ground level, and inserting a glazed walkway that projected into and over the new kitchen space. Our Client laughed and said they loved the idea.

Our take on the ‘Bat Cave’ was born, and the transformation is amazing.

Note: No bats were harmed in the making of this house.

Calculating enlarged window proportions for a current project to completely transform a run down terrace, and the new practice logo practically designed itself.

Phi and the golden rectangle have done it again!

Mental note: must put some more projects on this FB page when we get a breather…

Redid the website yesterday, so it's now clearer and more responsive across various platforms and devices.
