Another small update on the 86 Silver Gti. Busy with other things atm, so not much progress, going in the right direction, though. Had a small repair behind the front of the sill to sort out. Also got the sill tacked in place. I’ll get the rear rack in place when I get another spare couple of hours.

Spent an hour this morning prepping the sill for welding on later this week. Hole punch is a must for this job.

Had a busy couple of weeks so not had much time on the Gti. Carrying on from where I left off. Moved to the rear of the arch to chop out rot and replace with fresh metal. I miss having my old tooling to bend and shape metal 😑 gone back to basics here 😂

Bit more progress on the silver Gti today. Made new pieces of the jigsaw to weld back in. Starting to come together now. I’ll get the sill on later in the week, there’s also a bit at the rear of the arch into the rear bumper pocket that needs sorting, followed by the outer arch. ✌️😎

Few more hours on the silver Gti today. Here’s the first ten pics. Cutting rot out and going through the layers, it’s all salvageable with a bit of time. I’ve give it a coat of weld thru, let that dry whilst I make some bits to weld back in. I’ll update again later.

Work is resuming on my Silver mk2, finally. Since closing the business, the car has been stored in a good friend’s garage. My new employer is allowing me to finish the welding in our unit at work, which is an absolute godsend. Anyway, I finished off the windscreen/scuttle area that was hastily welded in before I moved out of my old unit. I’m now moving on to the rear N/S/R arch and also fitting a new sill and of course repairing anything I find behind both areas. I’ve got o NOS VW arch panel that I’ve had stashed for a while and of course the fit is perfect.

For anyone asking about me doing work for them, it just isn’t possible atm, not saying never but I’m starting another season on the wind turbines in the next couple of months so it wouldn’t be till next winter anyway, I might start off in a small unit and work the winter months doing car restoration and turbines in the summer. Watch this space 👍😎

Bought on a Monday the UK, then sat in .5 engine bay 3 days later in San Diego.
We get quite a few messages asking how long shipping takes to get from the UK to the USA.
The answer is 3 to 5 days, depending on things like weather events etc..

After much deliberation I have taken the decision to close AR Rustorations. It hasn’t been an easy decision, especially as I love my job but I just can’t sustain the business with the amount of work coming in at this time. Sorry to anyone that was wanting to book in. I will be spending the rest of the month moving stuff out of the unit, keep an eye out for some stuff that will be up for sale. Thanks to those who have supported me through the past year. ✌️😎
