The danger of unexpectedly live metalwork - STOP. No Check. No Contact!

Despite the rigorous process of safe isolation, other types of electrical hazards can still be present when working on electrical systems.

Standard safe isolation processes do not include checks to prevent some potential injuries caused by coming into contact with unexpectedly live metal parts.

Martindale electric identifies these additional hazards and examines how best to mitigate the risks.

Checking for live metalwork - Stop. No Check. No Contact!

There are other hidden dangers that, even with a rigorous safe isolation process, can still be present. One issue is the injuries caused to engineers, contractors, electricians and other workers coming into contact with unexpectedly live metal parts.

In this video, Martindale’s Glenn Patullo demonstrates a live metal check using the VT7 single pole indicator on an AC system. The video shows checks being carried out on exposed metal parts and screws, as well as the enclosure itself.
