⚡ One of the most common questions we get asked before an EV charger install is whether to go tethered or untethered. Both charge at exactly the same speed, the difference is entirely about convenience and flexibility.

🔌 A tethered charger has the cable built in, pick it up and plug straight into your car. An untethered charger has a socket, so you use a separate cable. If you have one car and want the simplest setup possible, tethered is usually the easier day-to-day choice. If you're likely to change vehicles or have two EVs with different connectors, untethered gives you more flexibility.

💰 There's government grant funding available toward the cost of a home EV charger in 2026, and most people either don't know it exists or assume the paperwork isn't worth the hassle.

⚡ The grant is run through OZEV and covers a contribution toward both the unit and installation. To qualify you need to already own or have ordered an eligible EV or plug-in hybrid, have off-street parking, and be installing your first dedicated home chargepoint. The installation also needs to be carried out by an approved installer, which we are.

If you believe you may be eligible for an OZEV grant, we’ll first provide you with a quotation for the proposed installation. You can then submit your grant application using our quotation. Once your application has been approved and you’ve received your OZEV voucher or approval reference, we’ll complete the installation and redeem the grant on your behalf.
