With the recent drought and prolonged dry spell, we’re seeing the ground become extremely hard and, in some areas, crack and open up considerably.

This movement in the ground can unfortunately affect memorials, and you may notice that a headstone or memorial has started to lean or move slightly.

If you notice that your loved one’s memorial has become unstable or is leaning, please don’t worry. Once the ground conditions improve and there is sufficient moisture back in the soil, we’ll be able to safely correct and level the memorial.

Before & After 🔨🪨

Another great renovation by our masons bringing this old double spaced kerb set back to its former glory.

A lot of work goes in to renovating memorials like this, removing old vegetation, re-concreting new foundation for the stone to sit on as well as cleaning the existing stone and bringing it to almost new 🤩 a fantastic transformation!

Our new brochure has finally gone to print 🤩

A great morning having a tour around KNP in Bury st Edmund’s seeing our new brochure come to life. It’s nice to see other businesses that pride themselves on their level of detail.

Big thank you to Steve for accommodating us and giving us a great insight in to how things operate.

Seeing them presses run in full flow was quite something and we can’t wait to have our new brochure over the next few days.

A wonderful piece of local history has found its way back to us.

We were delighted to be sent this Matchday programme from the 1955-1956 season, featuring an advertisement from H. Brett & Son!

It’s incredible to see how our business was supporting our local community over 70 years ago and continuing to do so to this day.

Rumour has it that our very own Paul Blake was leading the line that season too….

(Don’t worry Paul, we know you’re not quite that old 😉)

This old tomb had become unstable over time, with several stone sections having collapsed and creating a potential safety risk within the churchyard.

Our team carefully dismantled the sides of the structure and ensured the tomb was left safe and secure while preserving as much of its original character as possible. We then filled in the surrounding area with top soil just to ensure the ground was left flat and not a possible hazard to people walking by.

Working on historic memorials is always a privilege, and it’s important that repairs are carried out with respect, care, and traditional craftsmanship.

Traditional vs Modern 🪦

What is the difference between churchyard regulations and cemetery regulations?

Depending on where your loved one is laid to rest, the memorial that you choose could look very different.

We've created this guide to help families easily see what may or may not be allowed in the burial ground of your loved one.

Feel free to share and if anyone has any questions on this then please do get in contact.

A lovely day to dry some stones ☀️

Did you know all of our stonework is shaped by our masons here in Watton, using water fed machinery such as saws and handheld polishing machines.

The more porous materials we work with such as sandstone and limestone can often take days to dry before we are able to letter it. We can use heaters, radiators and air lines to try and speed up this process but there’s no substitute for sun drying these out naturally ☀️
