So as you have probably guessed, the remit here extends beyond wood occasionally. I was asked to install this beautiful limestone floor in the ground floor of this property. A bit of a head scratch as it was basically a huge jigsaw puzzle, but we got there in the end. Special matting was installed first to unify the floor and create a sound base between new floor and old. Then the fun began. Although at first glance the stone looks random, its not! When the stone was layed, it was then sealed. Then grouted like a normal tiled floor, then sealed again. This brings out the richness and colour in the limestone. It should be fed with wax periodically to maintain its shine. Very pleased with how this turned out!

I was asked by Burcott Mill Guesthouse in Wookey, to replace their existing porch which was nearing the end of its useful life. So the old porch was carefully taken down, and the unruly foliage surrounding it was pruned back. The concrete slab tidied up and repaired, then constuction of the new porch began! Using Sepele, I fabricated a new porch, building it dry in the workshop, then assembling it on site. This project was a fantastic project, covering many aspects of joinery, and construction. Every aspect was hand made. From the large pile of timber at the beginning, components emerged every day, finally resulting in the finished article. The porch got two coats of primer and undercoat, then after it was glazed another two top coats were added.

Following on from the refit at Chop Barbers, Street, I was asked to do something similar at the Wells branch. Scaffold boards were used for the cladding. First they were thicknessed to get back to bare, clean timber. Then the edges were distressed to give a worn look to the boards. Then the boards were fixed to the walls, and the fixings plugged with the same timber to make them virtually invisible. The electrical cupboard was torn down, and rebuilt to better suit the room, with a hidded door to give access. Finally some seating was constructed to finish off the shop fit!

This piece was made from reclaimed pine boards. Starting life as packing crates, when my client asked me to use this timber, I was a little dubious as to how the timber would turn out. After being de-nailed, and passed through the thicknesser, the timber that came out the other side was beautiful. Tight grained old pine, with a close grain pattern, and gorgeous colouring. After being glued into panels, the construction was fairly simple, using dadoes, and hidden rebates. To ensure the shelves didnt bend under the weight of books, the fronts were lipped to give the impression of thicker material. The bookshelf was delivered unfinished, as the client was yet to decide on the finish. I have since learned that the bookshelf was waxed with a neutral beeswax to retain the colour of the timber. A sound choice!

This was a tricky little kitchen to install. The room was very small, with some odd little features to change. Like the window being mostly blocked by the original worktop, blocking out the light. once these issues were resolved, the new kitchen design offered the same, if not more space, and a lot more light. With new tiles, and appliances, the end result was pretty satisfying!

For this job I was asked to repair two tired roofs, they originally had a mixture of pan tile and triple roman tiles on them. Needless to say, as they didnt fit together properly, leaks were a constant problem. After stripping each roof, the roof timbers were treated for rot and woodworm, then insulation was added. Next step was to double felt and counterbatten, as the pitch of the roof was too shallow for the new tiles which match the rest of the property. Finally the new tiles were installed, and the leadwork sorted. Finishing up with two sound roofs, with no leaks!
