Stafford Baptist Church.

Full spire and tower survey taking place today at the Stafford Baptist Church.

Quite an unusual pierced spire, but makes for great climbing!

Sometimes, we have to undo things to put them right.
This weathervane has become dangerously loose over winter where its connection has corroded and crumbled, and due to continued rocking back and forth, has also cracked the finial stone in two.

We will take all 100kgs of solid wrought iron, chilmark stone and copper cockeral down to the ground, without scaffolding, and fabricate a new stainless connection and boss to the tie rod system. Recarve the finial stone and reinstate all elements, finished with a freshly gilded cockerel.

Keep your eyes peeled for more on this one. 👀

Our exciting monument relocation project at Sherborne Abbey is well underway.

The Horsey monument is a 16th century monument to Sir John Horsey II (d. 1546) and his son Sir John Horsey III (d. 1564)

We will be carefully dismantling and rebuilding the Horsey monument in its new location within the Abbey.

At JP Conservation, we get to work on and help conserve a real variety of different structures. Today, some of the team are at Kelston Lock for the Canal & River Trust. Kelston Lock is 299 years old, and was built by engineer John H**e of Newbury, with the first cargo passing through in December 1727. The lock has been drained so that the Trust can replace the lock gates, also allowing JP Conservation in to do remedial works to the masonry.

Works begin this week at St Mary the Virgin - Elmley Castle.

We’re back at Fountains Abbey dealing with more of the vegetation on the Abbey walls.

Founded in 1132, Studley Royal Park and Fountains Abbey is a UNESCO world heritage site.

Woody growth, Trees and Ivy can be extremely disruptive to all buildings, so, to protect Fountains, it’s important to keep on top of this type of vegetation.
