It was great to visit this completed extension which has transformed this Holme Road property. This project made clever use of the existing space with a small side extension to create a practical utility. We removed the tired conservatory which has created a larger garden/patio area then before the extension was added! The new open plan kitchen/dining area is flooded with light thanks to the 3-in-1 Velux rooflight.

All the back-to-school photos this week have got me thinking about just how important a good entrance is to a home.
It’s the first thing you see when you come home, the space that welcomes guests, and the backdrop for so many milestones!
I’ve worked on quite a few projects where the entrance has ended up being the client’s favourite feature. A well-designed entrance doesn't just look good — it sets the tone for the whole home and holds so many everyday moments and milestones.

I really enjoyed going to see the degree show at Nottingham Trent Uni at the end of last week. The show was so professionally put together and there was so much talent and hard work on display. I’ve been helping over the past year as a guest reviewer for the third-year architecture students. It’s been really rewarding to be part of the reviews and see the progress the students have made. I recently read the following RIBA article by Neal Morris about why architects should visit graduate shows. He concluded that:
“Graduate shows are also a chance for architects to celebrate architecture as an art, and perhaps reconnect with their own early passions and idealism. Many architects leave a show inspired and eager to test a new way of approaching their own projects. In this way, end-of-year degree shows often provide a crucial spark of renewal and forward-thinking momentum.”
This resonated with me. Being involved with the NTU student reviews this past year has inspired me, sparked my creativity and reminded me why I wanted to be an architect in the first place!

This recently completed West Bridgford extension features a stunning double height kitchen space which is flooded with light from the large rooflight above. It was great to see this finished extension in West Bridgford. The levels on the site were tricky but the apex glazing provides a view of the sky from the new dining room. It was great to visit this completed project in Burton Joyce this week. It has the most fantastic garden on a sloping site. The mono pitch roof with corner glazing was designed to maximise the view of the garden. The slope of the site makes it feel like the new extension is sitting within the tree canopy!
