Meet Lazarus.

Although I have been slowly moving over to Brushless Makita power tools, this Bosch has been been my go-to drill/driver for my Hot Tub work. This is because it is wet and dirty work sometimes and, we’ll, you don’t wear a Dinner Suit for Mud Wrestling!

It has got rained on until it stopped working, dried off and worked again. The charger packed up so I disassembled it and fixed the blown component.

But yesterday, yesterday I thought was terminal. It went into a tub. Fully, completely and long enough for me to realise what had just happened, get to it and retrieve it from the bottom! I left it draining out and than when I got home, stripped it and the battery down and aired it.

Today, he lives. All tested and working properly.

A little Moonlighting.

Some of you might know that I am also a Spa Technician too.
Today I was called out to a tub that hasn’t worked since having power cuts in the recent storms. After talking to the customer the tub was actually Tripping the RCD which gave me a good indication as to what it was, and I was certain it was not storm related.
This image is what I was confronted with when I investigated further.
This is why it is important to check the pH level of the water as well as the sanitiser level.

A new Consumer Unit with RCBO’s fitted to a 200 year old property.

The lighting circults threw up the usual ‘Shared Neutral’ on the light on the landing, so that was modified to current standards too.

A customer wanted better lighting in their kitchen and utility area.

6 LED Downlights in the kitchen and 5 LED Downlights in the utility and vestibule, all controlled on Rotary Dimmers.

We also installed a new Consumer Unit with RCBO’s, added a socket to the ring and also a waterproof external socket, concealed some other wiring and pre-wired the kitchen for under-cabinet lighting and induction an hob for when they re-do their kitchen.

Before ’n’ After.

A customer needed an old fuse board upgraded.

On inspection, there were a couple of extra circuits tagged on to three of the fuses. The biggest surprise though was that there was no main earth conductor from the fusebox to a main earthing terminal.

In went a nice new Consumer Unit with each circuit separated out and all protected with RCBO’s, and a Main Earth Conductor too.
